Well, I've yet to see anyone claim Karl is giving a once in a generation performance and that it is totally inconceivable to argue otherwise.

They are facts. Platt is, technically, giving a more impressive performance. Hurting your leg and showing up to work should not guarantee you a Tony.
Karl is doing much more than simply "showing up to work." That's a foolish statement to make.
And yes, everything you've stated is an opinion that you're trying to pass off as a fact. Platt's performance may be the more vocally demanding, but that alone shouldn't be the reason he receives a Tony Award. If that alone were the criteria, than Patti or Ebersole would be winning Leading Actress, as both are much more difficult sings than Dolly Levi. And we all know that's not happening.
Honestly, I have no horse in the race and think Platt probably is going to win, but you are now making me hope for an upset.

I only read the general threads, but I've seen more posts from you being overly sensitive about any contrary opinion about Platt than anything from "Karlites" other than a few people saying they want him to win the Tony or that they think he deserves it, which were pretty mild statements unless you think simply thinking Karl genuinely deserves the Tony is a slight and insult against Ben Platt and you personally take offense to it.
It just shows me that many of you are just too stupid to recognize a good performance when you see it. You just want to root against DEH.

Just let it go. You don't need to resort to immature insults because others don't agree with you.

Yeah, that's it.
No one said it wasn't a good performance, just that...oh, never mind. It's not worth it. You're acting like a 7 year old.
Exactly zero people on this thread have asserted Platt's performance is not good.

And if they had, that's just ok because it's their opinion. LuPone in Gypsy was probably the greatest live performance I've ever seen, and I have a friend who thinks she was awful in the part. I disagree, but that doesn't mean I think my friend is stupid for his opinion. That's childish.

Yes. I can. He deserves a nomination, but I think that Platt is giving a far superior performance.

If you look at Michael Riedel's predictions from the past, he is almost always, without exception, WRONG! He enjoys coming across like he's got some inside scoop or a better idea about how things will go when he really has no clue. Just sayin'...
One thing that has not been discussed too much is the age of the TONY voters, most I know are over 40, and a lot over 50. Platt is giving a terrific performance (and will most likely win) but DEAR EVAN and Platt's fans are a lot younger. I know they have fans of all ages but you can't count out Karl's appeal and his wonderful, sure, performance this season.
I think the race has definitely tightened up and I love a good upset like when Hyde Pierce beat Esparza, who had his groupies swooning at his every breath.
Riedel gets a lot wrong but every once in a while he IS on to something.
Andy seems to only have got buzz after injuring himself. Ridiculous.
I did see them both and he is great. But Platt is Ebersole!Grey Gardens; Ripley!N2N; Patti!GYPSY special. Would be a shame to see him lose. That said - part of me wants to see the world burn. And some of the posts about this topic are quite crazy that I feel somewhat embarrassed being associated with them haha.
I'll be rooting for Karl to win the Tony and personally think he gives the best performance of the nominees by a decent margin. I've seen Platt in Evan Hansen twice and think he is good, but I much prefer Karl's performance (and show).
This year is the most exciting award season since Piazza/Spamalot/Spelling Bee; so much is up in the air without many 100% locks, except Dolly for revival and Bette for Actress. The plays and the musicals will give opportunity for many close calls and upsets. The last few years have been rather boring with everyone showing up at the Tony party and getting 90% correct on their Tony ballot guessing contest.
CPD- Platt/Karl totally feels like Esparza/DHP. Sure, Platt could still win, but people should have learned by now not to count their chickens before they hatch.
While I thought Platt and Karl were both great and very deserving (even though I didn't care for either of their shows), I'm curious to see how opinions of Platt's performance hold up with someone else in the role. Two seasons ago I thought Alex Sharp was incredible in Curious Incident but found his replacement, Tyler Lea, to be just as great in the role.

Crazy how different this year is than last. Revival, Leading Actress, Choreography, Lighting Design, and Set Design were the only categories that were remotely undecided. Leading Actress less than the others because Cynthia was an obvious frontrunner, but no one would have been shocked if Phillipa or Jessie won. This year, basically everything is up in the air (except Leading Actor & Actress and Revival, which will 100% go to Mr. Platt, Queen Midler, and Dolly).
My reaction to at 99% of Riedel's articles
When, if ever, has there been a set of plays nominated for the best play Tony which were each so generally well received as the four nominated this season?

Also, each nominated playwright is making their Broadway debut.

Agreed. Usually there's a clear front-runner, one that could win in another season, and two others that just round out the category. I feel like conceivably all four could win this year and there isn't a clear front-runner.
It's really a toss up for Best Musical. I do consider GREAT COMET the darkhorse as the reviews & word-of-mouth for DEH & CFA were/are much more positive. And is there really any chance GREAT COMET could tour? That'll decide votes. Same with DEH & CFA. Would DEH do well on the road without Platt?

Show-Score has Comet with a higher critics score than Come From Away.
None of the three scream 'would do well on tour' so I doubt it will factor into the decision making this year.
Come From Away and Dear Evan Hansen could and likely will easily tour. I doubt the same is true of Comet, but then again how many folks doubted it would work in a large Broadway house, so who knows?
