I believe he is correct on all accounts. And, after the reviews for Broderick and Esparza, Ron Raines will also be a nominee (and deservedly so)
I am expecting a lot of Follies love. I will be thrilled if Raines manages to snag that slot.
I think he's correct mostly.
I don't "get" FOLLIES in general, and I think that production was really poorly staged and aside from Maxwell and Burstein (who was amazing), it really kind of bored me.... So I hope he's wrong about it winning.
Definitely think Elena Roger might be left out. Remember when we thought she was Audra's competition?

So you hope it's not winning because you didn't "get it"? Ok...
No I'm saying I don't "get" the hype of the show in general (not just this production) but that this production specifically does not call for a Tony award in my opinion.
Why is it that hoping it doesn't win as a personal opinion gets a snarky reaction? Isn't the whole point of this board to post opinions? I really don't understand why you bother to reply the way you did. Sorry, I don't post here very often, but it's kind of ridiculous when you receive that kind of reply. Just discuss, and if you don't agree with me, fine, I wouldn't try to tell you what to think. It is my opinion and preference that Follies does not win Best Revival. I did not see a Tony-worthy production when I saw it.
Oh love, you don't know what a snarky reaction is...

I am so sad Elena Roger is not predicted to snag a nomination. I LOVE her Eva Peron
I have yet to see Evita, but I honestly would be shocked if Bernadette was nominated over Elena Roger. I don't know what performance the Tony voters saw, but Bernadette's Sally was just an odd performance, to say the least. For all the qualms about Roger's singing, at least she apparently acts the role quite well. Bernadette, when I saw it at least, struggled with her songs, and her acting choices were really bizarre.
Not that it really matters for me anyway, as Jan Maxwell better be winning that Tony.

Sounds like what people are saying about Ms. Roger's performance! I just don't see them snubbing Bernadette. Overall, her reviews were better than Roger's.
Except for some of the plays I could really care less about the Tonys this year. Everything pretty much sucked. Broadway will be back soon. This has just been one of those years.
^ Sadly, I agree... There have been some great performances, but on the whole the new musical category has been lacking... Bonnie and Clyde was my favorite of the season (best show and score IMO). As for Newsies or Once, I am not particularly thrilled with either one... Hopefully there will be some great revivals and new musicals next season (super excited for Matilda!), because this season has been pretty slow.
I really hope Bernadette gets a nomination...it will be surprising considering this forum has thought she might be snubbed. I realise I am a bias fanboy, but there were some moments (e.g. IN BUDDY'S EYES, her entrance/exit, her distressed "the band was playing", some of her humour ("I see sadness in his eyes") and the dialogue transitioning into Loveland etc..) that at least deserve a nomination IMO. I don't think it was a throw away performance to be forgotten about..
I think a lot of what he says makes sense -- I mean, SHEESH, what the hell else could get nominated as the 4th show?
Ghost?
B&C?
Leap?
Spiderman is no WORSE then those, and most, at least thought it IMPROVED from 1.O. I've seen them all but Ghost, and I think I may have disliked B&C the most.
I know Ghost got terrible reviews, but I think that it's better than Leap of Faith and Bonnie and Clyde. I haven't seen Spiderman 2.0, but Ghost is DEFINITELY better than version 1.0. Honestly, I think Lysistrata Jones, while really divisive among the critics and people on here, was the strongest of the remaining new musicals.

I wish that it would happen, but it won't.
The award goes to Cristin Milioti for playing that dragon lady in Once. It must take extraordinary effort to never crack a smile. Actually, she might deserve it just for having to wear that outfit and coiffure.
Whatever happened to costumes like those in Camelot or Ben Franklin in Paris?
You think so, After Eight? I still think Audra is the favorite at this point.
Jdrye, I agree with you completely about FOLLIES. I would like to see PORGY win.
Reidel's right about best actress in a musical nominees.
I think he may be correct about SPIDER MAN, which is at least a hit. Better yet, I'd like to see just three nominees for best musical.
And given how bad the musicals were this year and how good the plays were, I'd like to see five nominees for best play,
VENUS IN FUR is one of the best new plays to open on Broadway in years.
And anyone who writes a column about who will be vying for best of the season and fails to mention Nina Arianda needs to find a new job. The man has no poetry in his soul.

I hope that the fourth slot for Best Musical goes to LYSISTRATA JONES. I know it's closed and nearly completely forgotten, but it's still a hell of a lot better than SPIDER-MAN.
^actually, that might make more sense. I plead short memory.

"The man has no poetry in his soul"
I have a lot of poetry in my soul, and I thought that Venus in Fur was one of the worst plays of this or any other season.
Spiderman taking the 4th slot is actually looking pretty likely, I agree. Simply because they'll want to keep Leap of Faith out.
I still think it's pretty sad that an actress could screw up Eva Peron badly enough to not even get a Tony nomination for it. I would love it if they decided An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin was a musical and nominated Patti in that 5th slot instead.
