If you are like me, and you enjoy the show for what it is not the camp of it all, you do not want to watch Rocky Horror with other people. Ever. At this point it is not an 'actual stage production" without the audience participation. People would (rightfully) demand their money back if they got a ticket to Rocky Horror and were told to shut up and just watch.
But god what I would give to go see Rocky Horror live without everyone stepping on jokes I find funny as written.
Why is Roundabout so secretive about this cast? The anticipation (no pun intended) will either make this a big letdown or a big coup. They just need to say it already.

Considering presale starts this week I would expect a cast announcement (or atleast Frank) to be announced tomorrow.
Regarding audience participation, I watched the movie last night at home for the first time in years and it was nice to take in without people yelling through the whole thing, my wife has never seen it so we watched it at home so she didnt feel totally lost when we go to an in person event next week at Town Hall
They are doing "late" saturday performances and I could see those being disignated as "participation" performances, but idk if I would want to spend $250 on a ticket to listen to people behind me yell at the actors all night
Trust me. No one will be happy no matter who’s cast. Someone will find something to bitch, complain, scream it’s not gender neutral, too gay, not gay enough, it’s too white, not enough racial diversity, in fact the list is endless.

Totally agree, but I think the longer they wait, the more heightened those complaints will be. Rip the bandaid off!
I’m anticipating outrage akin to MHE regardless of who they get as Frank - Boris will rise like summoning for Beetlejuice. 🤣
I saw the 2001 production three times and thought the audience participation was the perfect amount. I don't really enjoy midnight showings of the movie because some of them get so over the top you can't hear anything over the audience members, but found that people mainly stuck to just the most popular callbacks at the Broadway production.
I wonder if they will have an intermission or keep the flow going like in bcp
I'm voting for Barry Bostwick as the narrator.

I don't say this as either a dig or as a positive, but we need to remember that this is Sam Pinkleton's "Rocky Horror." Any expectations any of us have about what will happen with this casting will surely be subverted. They're giving him the freedom to do his thing, so I'm not so sure we'll get any celebrity pandering unless he's convinced they're the best person for the job.

The Pittsburgh CLO production is done as a ninety-minute one act, with a four piece band and no ensemble. I saw it twice a few weeks ago: once on a night with NO audience participation, and once on a night with EXTREME audience participation. Both were fun, but the night with full interaction was way more rewarding for the audience (and for the actors onstage, who you could tell were loving it).
I saw a screening of the new 4K restoration a few weeks ago. Big sold out theater and there was no live cast or anything, which was odd to everyone there. The film started and the audience was silent and I’m looking around and see lots of other people looking around kind of confused and laughing about how weird this is. Then “science fiction double feature” ended and when Janet said “oh Brad wasn’t it wonderful?” Someone simply yelled out “NO!” And there was this sense of relief and for the next couple hours it was “normal” with all of us shouting and having a great time.
“Rocky” with no audience participation is extremely awkward and uncomfortable.

The first preview of Rocky isn't for another 5 months. Why is everyone expecting them to announce the cast already? This isn't Audra in Gypsy. The selling point is the show, not who is starring in it. Most likely it won't be until early 2026 that they finalize the cast and announce it.
Roundabout typically has some kind of anchor casting for their tentpole productions like this that gets announced either along with the production or soon after. It just helps solidify subscription sales and build excitement.

Especially here. It will be the same tired arguments had by the same tired people, and they will dominate every thread on the topic of Rocky Horror.

Yes, but I think if they were going to do that, they would have announced it with the others. They simultaneously announced Byrne and O'Hara in Fallen Angels, Strong and Manville in Oedipus and Patrick Page in Archduke, plus "Rocky Horror". If they were planning to use a star to hype up Rocky Horror, seems like they would have just announced it all at once, since they were already announcing star casting for the other 3. So the fact that they didn't makes me think they're just counting on the name alone and will announce casting much closer to the start of rehearsals.

I assure you, it's because they didn't have anybody to announce. If Rocky Horror is THE SELL then it needs to be in the Fall. Otherwise there's nothing special seeing it outside of that time frame. I hope they have someone to announce this week Otherwise I don't know how well they think this pre-sale is actually gonna go.

If they're not going to have a Star to announce this week, they should at least really push the messaging that it's being done by the director of OH MARY!

Hard disagree here. Rocky fans will go to a screening of it on Christmas Eve, if it's playing. While it can be extra fun at Halloween time, it's a year round good time.

I’m with Jordan. This is Rocky Horror we’re talking about. One could even argue this was Roundabout “selling out” (To clarify, I love, love, love RHS)
the show will sell just fine before and after casting is announced.

this show has commercial money/producers involved and could end up as an open run based on sales/reviews
I think it’ll do fine but (and this is just my own experience), fellow “Rocky” friends of mine are VERY skeptical about this. We’ve talked for years about how badly we want a revival and when this was announced, everyone was immediately skeptical with most saying they’re going to wait for casting before buying anything.
I am absolutely desperate for Daniel Radcliffe as Brad. I think he would be phenomenal.

But a Rocky screening is cheap and this is objectively not. Why take out money for this when you could go see a shadow cast for a fraction of the price and a much bawdier experience? Like even all the Drag Shows know what time of year they should be cashing in on Rocky Horror to get more than just a "Rocky Fan" audience, which they need to make this sell.
