I'd love Brandi Carlile as Columbia À la Joan Jett
Frankie’s Frank stops at Bucks.
You dont like the “exclusive” photos we see every year lol

I’d love to see Lena Hall as Riff Raff, but if they cast Jennifer Simard as Frank, it wouldn’t matter who they’d cast in the other roles. She’d be the show.

Honestly I’d love to see some major “names” Jonathan Bailey or TImothee Chalamet or Cheyenne Jackson … if this doesn’t turn out to be a pretty bankable event, even if it was full of Broadway bankable names. I’m not too terribly interested in the mounting.

I fear that if this isn’t a “name” event or at least some solid broadway names, the counterculture show to see will be Jellicle Ball. Unless they find a way to make this fresh again. It’s been done.
Meanwhile, if you're curious and on the East Coast, Pittsburgh CLO is running a "back to basics" staging of The Rocky Horror Show. Other than a few major changes like the inversion of Time Warp and Sweet Transvestite that are universal now, the show is presented as a partial restaging of the original UK premiere and tour concept, without significant influence from the film, the Broadway and Roxy productions, or anything else. It's even down to a four-piece band again.

A man in tights and heels doesn’t bat an eye anymore, and rightfully so. But a bald, long lashed Simard in a bustiertearing through that score?"
Simard’s great, but I don’t really see it and don’t like the idea of casting the sweet transvestite with a cisgender woman just doing drag on top of drag. I don’t find this description to sound more shocking than the average portrayal. Also with baritones being less in fashion now, I’d prefer to keep an iconic lead role within those original keys.

This is exactly why I don’t understand when people suggest casting ideas like Jennifer or the rumored Timothee Chalamet…I feel like casting an assuming straight cisgender person would be immediately panned
I respect that. I think from a socially political side, it would make sense for them to cast a non-binary, trans, or at least queer person in the role. I personally don’t believe Frank is more than a man in women’s clothes, though - isn’t that what transvestite more or less meant at the time? He’s also an alien, and Simard is out of this world lol
Notes on baritones absolutely agreed with - worth protecting the roles. She would just be thrilling to listen to with that score.

it's a bit messy to get into what transvestite meant because a lot of these terms were used in so many different ways - some people who used that term were cis and crossdressing and others were trans. i'd def think right now is not the time to cast a cis person in that role, especially on a broadway stage
Would they go for Jinx or no because they were basically just at that theater.
I think Frank in this day and age should definitely be played by a queer performer. (I do have some misgivings, however, about casting a trans performer in the role, which, to me, has the potential to really make the piece much more problematic than many already think it is).

i definitely see where you're coming from! my perspective as a trans person is it's better for a trans person to play the role in a way that can be subversive or in a sort of reclaiming way over a cis person possibly playing a caricature, but i def think it's smth to be navigated with tact no matter who is cast for sure

I feel if you cast someone Trans as Frank you have to do it subversively otherwise you're left with that middle school film they made for Fox some years ago. A cast good in theory, but in motion was a train wreck.

I guess I don’t know why there would be a need for any sexuality publicly attached to the actor played Frank… this is a sweet transvestite from transsexual, Transylvania. This other worldly character could be portrayed by whoever. And “if” it was someone like a Chalamet.,.. so what.

Because handing over a role to another cis straight (probably white) boy is boring. Chalamet in particular has the sex appeal of a noodle.

It's an undeniably queer role in arguably the best-known queer musical.

Yeah, I don’t know why it would even matter if the guy is white, cisgender, male. If they deliver on the role. Cheyenne Jackson I would see regardless if the role was straight or not. I guess I don’t really care about much of anything off stage. If they deliver on stage.

I think if people are in the market for this show they'll see it regardless of the sexuality of the actor in the role, but that doesn't mean they should say what they want out of casting for the role. People have watched Straight People play the role for decades, they are in fact used to it.
I've just seen very few straight white guys put forth that actually would be a wow factor.
They wanna give the role to Daniel Radcliffe? I'd be for it 100%! Someone who has actually spent his adult career playing absolute weirdos.
In his CBS Sunday Morning interview this past weekend, Tim Curry says his advice to pending Franks is to ""forget the word “camp”, because he's a guy…and he prides himself on being able to f*ck anybody"".
I'd be onboard with Daniel Radcliffe if it triggered all the JK Rowling cult obsessives.
We had a very straight white male in Australia who was before the court for molesting[never proved] a fellow female On Stage. Been banished for years now.
Once we had here Reg Livermore[gay] who was everything--raunchy, VERY funny, camp ! sexy and not any way, drag.
Check out his Betty Blogbuster Follies--it could be Blockbuster--so long ago.

I'm a little anxious about the potential audience participation here. Wouldn't that just be for the midnight showings, not an actual stage production? Or should I fully avoid this if that's a concern for me?

I'm confused. Audience participation is a MAJOR part of this show. Every performance. The audience is as much a part of the production as anything else, or at least it needs to be in order to have a successful production. What worries me is that in the enormous Studio 54, how do they successfully accomplish that?
