I don’t know why people are continuing to debate her age here as if she’s playing a 50 year old. She’s playing a 40 year old. Norma is 40 in this production.

The hat is clearly made to look like Trump merch, associating with Russell Brand is a red flag, and she’s apparently evangelical (high propensity Trump voters). Yes, it’s not technically a MAGA hat but, I’m sorry, if it looks like a duck…

I think it's fair game to make comments or inferences from her public comments but there is something a bit icky to me about using her religious beliefs as a signal to start a witch hunt - even if I agree with you that there is objectively likely a relationship. The way I decide if it's ok or not is by considering my own beliefs (e.g. I am a militant atheist) and imagining another world, such as with the current Republican presidency, where if the political culture shifts and people were doing the same thing in reverse about my beliefs how scary that would be. For example replace your statement
" she’s apparently evangelical"
with
"she's apparently muslim"
"she's apparently jewish"
"she's apparently an atheist"
Surely you can see that we have to hold ourselves to a level of decency if we expect others to do the same in return.

I agree that we can’t know fully what her beliefs are. But she chose to comment on a hat made specifically to look like a MAGA hat posted by Russell Brand on Election Day. Intentionally or not, all those factors certainly send a signal.

There’s now an r/Broadway thread discussing this, as well as pointing out that there’s a fair bit of evidence she’s been a Trump supporter for a while. I don’t want to start a witch hunt. Scherzinger initially told Jamie Lloyd she was too young for the role. Jamie Lloyd has talked about wanting to cast a woman "who is in her prime" (not how I'd phrase it), not an older actress.
Whatever you or I think 46 or 50 looks like, this was the creative team's own perception. Also Scherzinger playing Norma as a feral ballet dancer in a simple black slip, not in elaborate robes and hats is a creative decision in part to make her read as younger. A younger Norma is baked into the concept.

I just realized Diego played Artie. I would think Artie is a big enough role to not understudy Joe, but Diego seemed like a very good singer. He does come off quite young though, but I think that would be an interesting take. Diego lacks that darkness that Tom Francis has (just based off appearance).

I think it's fair to discuss this imho. Having said that, not sure what I find more disgusting... implicitly supporting someone who encouraged the masses to take over the US capitol (among other things) or associating with someone who's under investigation for sexual assault

It's infuriating how some opinions are not only deemed unacceptable but ripe for further accusations, assumptions and outright dismissal. If you don't like her opinion, fine, grow up and move on. Thought this topic was about her amazing performance in a stunning production?

Do you really think Nicole is that naive? She knows the hat is made to look like a MAGA hat. She knows why Russell Brand posted this pic on Election Day. She knows Russell Brand has been accused of years of sexual misconduct.
Btw, it seems she liked another post of Russell’s defending Trump from the media. And she posted a “get out and vote video” in which she’s wearing a red hat but doesn’t vocally endorse either candidate.

When any of us post comments publicly, here, or on any social media platform, we are allowing ourselves to be opened up to criticism.
In such a charged time, her post is just stupid. Given her position. Where’s the PR team that signed off on this reply publicly?

It’s gonna be a rough 4 years for everyone if we go down this path of canceling anyone for their political beliefs if they don’t align with yours. Trump won in a landslide for a reason.

Many have made the point that making these types of products in similar Font and colors was to co-opt the slogan, but whatever... Deny her a Tony and make her a pariah now for liking a hat.

Russell Brand is a huge Trumper and posted this hat on Election Day. It is very much a “Christians for Trump” hat. And you’re being disingenuous if you think Nicole doesn’t know exactly what this hat signifies.
She’s liked posts of his explicitly defending Trump, and comments on Russell’s page frequently. People have uncovered strongly anti-abortion comments she’s made in the past. Members of her family apparently bought Kamala chew toys for their dogs. This is not just a hat.
