She could barely sing the part of Rosemary in H2$, and that isn't a demanding role. She'd be a disaster as Eva.

I've been saying Toni Collette for months now. I'd be happy with Murney or Ripley, though.

I don't think Lloyd Webber or any musical director, or show director would see Sarah Jessica Parker playing this role simply because her singing voice is not comparable to the people that have played this role before. Evita is obviously a major singing role unlike characters like Princess Winifred in which an astonishing voice is not required, I insist that Parker is ideal for Sweet Charity or Chicago, roles that do not need a big belter, she'd have been great as Ruth Sherwood in my opinion. Anyways, I love Sarah Jessica Parker but she's just not Evita.

Puhleasse! No way would Maria take on the role of Evita. Perhaps ten years ago but not now. Having heard her take on Dont Cry for Me and others I dont think she would pull it off. Acting wise fine but vocally its just not her show.

As for SJP its a stupid rumour....the real rumour that hasn't been mentioned is that Toni Collete has been cast. I'd take that one much more seriously.

That's an absurd rumour. Absolutely absurd. Sarah Jessica would be the first to tell you she could never in a million years sing that role. Plus she's not going to uproot her family to go to London for six months. Seriously, where do these stories start?

I agree this rumor doesn't even make sense. I would honetly be shocked if this were ACTUALLY true. Of course if it is true... I'm going to have to find a way to hop a plane to London.

Okay I know that so many people are saying that Sarah Jessica Parker could not do the part. And I have to say that I thought her Once Upon a Mattress (albet great for comic timing) was a little weak. But does anyone remember Julie Covington? I mean come on.... I thought she was weak! And at least Sarah could belt better... She did do a good job with SHY.

Okay other then that... I vote for TONI COLLETTE. But I dont really think SJP would be THAT bad.... of course, they COULD give SJP the role of Sweet Charity when Christina leaves.

Julia Murney can't sing it? I'd be very suprised if that were true.

She's a spitfire. She'd be beyond amazing and it's time for a big, bright, new theatre star. Julia is the perfect candidate. All she needs is a little gift from the casting gods.

EVITA will sell without a name. I want ALW and company to go for who's good, not who's famous.

Ten bucks says the role goes to an british actress. Why are people throwing out all these names like Murney and Ripley? Why would British equity ever clear them when there are people in England who can do the role easily?


And regarding Julie Covington -- her voice is shrill and brittle but she has no trouble hitting those notes. Her voice may be lacking in musicality but its not lacking in range.

Ok really no producer is dumb enough to do that and ms. parker certainly isn't dumb enough to do that...she has a family and it's obviously not right for her.

every day I pray for alice ripley, but that's not going to happen either.

I aslo bet a british actress will get the role.

and why doesn't anyone care about who is Che?

I didn't think madonna was in the running either, MTVMANN so I'd like to no myself.
