Any ideas for a ballad about either cars, traveling, or saying goodbye? A music teacher friend of mine is trying to piece together her show choir set for the upcoming season.
In Fiddler, the song "Far From The Home I Love" might be suitable. It's sung to Tevye by his daughter Hodl just before she gets on a train to join her fiance in Siberia.
Hm, maybe Sante Fe from Newsies? He's talking about getting on a train to go to Sante Fe and leaving the city, soo possibly.
These probably wouldn't work but, Santa Fe and Goodbye Love from Rent.
Ooo I second Goodbye Love, that's perfect.
New York New York =)
Bus from Amarillo, from Whorehouse, I actually think has all those three, except there is a bus instead of a car.

Does it have to be Broadway?
Leaving on a Jet Plane
50 Ways to Leave Your Lover
If it doesn't have to be Broadway, Thunder Road by Springsteen is EXACTLY that.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (from CCBB)
*Greased Lightning (from Grease, obviously)
*My Boyfriend's Back (from Jersey Boys, including pre-monologue)
Rock Island (from Music Man)
Healthy Normal American Boy (from Bye Bye Birdie... err, it takes place in a train station)
*Leavin's Not The Only Way To Go (from Big River)
I Do, I Do In The Sky (from Drowsy Chaperone)
They're about cars, or traveling, really... I think the best choice up there is "Leavin's Not The Only Way To Go." Every choir showcase needs a couple solo songs, and this can showcase your 3+ best singers.

David Hasselhoff has a new song out called "Jump In My Car".
I highly doubt sheet music for it will ever be released, so I guess I can't help you out.
Goodby Until Tommorow - Last 5 Years
"On the Atchitson, Topika and the Santa Fe." It's not from a stage musical, but it's from a screen musical. It's not a ballad, as you've requested, but it could be a good choir piece.
I second "Goodbye Until Tomorrow."
As If We Never Said Goodbye - Sunset Blvd
Goodbye, My Love/Journey On - Ragtime
(not a ballad:)
"Travel" from Starting Here, Starting Now (great song!)
P.S. --- Did anybody ever write a BALLAD about a car???
