I don't play favorites with this show! I know the NYC cast the best because I see them most often, but all the companies are wonderful! I've enjoyed meeting them all and seeing the show performed so many different ways.
But the people who are my favorites know who they are :)
I didn't get to meet her in Boston, I barely could remember the names of all the regular cast members, though I love seeing the understudies too! Maybe next time I decide to tour around the country to see all the different casts- for now I will stick with NYC!
I am new to the board! I love Spelling Bee! I saw it about 6 weeks ago and got to be a guest speller. I got all the way to Xerophthalmiology!!! I even got a standing ovation.
I saw it again a couple weeks ago and my friend got to be a spelller. But she wasn't as good as me!
My favorite person in the bee is Deborah, I wish I had been able to see Jesse and Celia though!!
I loved Jesse's stories, especially singing "I forgot the words," that was great. Liotte- were you there at the Bee where he did that? (Hmm- is that somewhere earlier in this thread here and I just forgot?) And someone at Don't Quit Your Night Job sang along to "I forgot the words" when Jesse did it last night, which made it even funnier. Updated On: 10/30/06 at 12:15 PM
I wasn't there, since I was at camp for the summer. I was there for Jesse's last performance, that was the last time I saw him. I don't know who sang along with him, might have been Vadim, but I loved that story, I'd never heard it before. Updated On: 10/27/06 at 12:30 PM
I saw Lucia Thursday night and loved her performance. It took a little getting used to at first. She spoke a few of the lines in the opening number instead of singing them, and she was a little off when she had to say "Very nice, very nice..." at the same time as Jose. I loved everything else however, and this is from somebody who has seen and loved Lisa four times before this. She has the same outfit, but she keeps her jacket unbuttoned. And at the end of the Prayer of the Comfort Counselour she did an extremely high leg kick that allowed everyone to see completely under her dress. She and Derrick both looked like it was an accident that she did it.
Cathryn Basile was also on as Marcy, and I was very impressed with her performance as well. She had many friends in the audience so I'm guessing it was her first performance.
Sarah gave the speech at the end, and spoke about how her favorite track on Carols for a Cure was Phantom singing "Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel." I then bought my copy from Todd B. in the lobby.
Why is Lisa out? Is Lucia staying after she gets back?
I know I'm very late getting on the boat, but I am loving this show and I have never seen it. I happened to be searching "can't say name of site".com and came across a Spelling Bee clip. So I decided to check it out "I'm not that smart" with Barrett. I loved it!! He is such a cutie! (Was he in any other shows?) So I watched some more (Celia..is that her name?) has an amazing voice. I can't wait to hear her sing On My Own in Les Mis. So I have definitely bumped this to my top 3 of shows I need to see soon! I conned a friend to go with me because my fiance can't seem to get into the description of the show, lol. I also ordered the cast recording. Just thought I'd share.

Thanks! Avenue Q is another show I hope one day to check out. I acutally live 20 minutes away from the city but just don't get in that often. I'll let you know once I get the full cast recording what I think. I do really like the song they did on Carols for a Cure, very cute.

This year's. I received it in the mail this week. They do "Decembers other, less famous holidays" and it is hysterical (so is Avenue Q's The Holi-Daze which is all about drinking your way through Christmas!)

I just saw Spelling Bee for the firt time on 10/27 and loved it! I got picked to be in the bee, and I had the BEST time I have ever had at a Broadway show. I beat all the other audience members!
So Deborah S. Craig was in charge of me, and it was crazy. They were all in character, and they all talked to each other and us (the 4 audience members) in character. They made us dance. They made us jump. I had spelled "cow," "caterjunes," and got out on the third word (something like xerophalology?). I got my juice box, and I had a great time. I loved when they sang to me as I was going back to my seat! Everything was just so surreal!
Barrett was adorbale as always (especially when he sang just to me during "I'm Not That Smart"). And Jennifer was adorable too. Jose, Deborah, and Sarah were all fantastic too. Sarah just puts so much into her character! And I was very impressed with Josh's performance. Derrick and Greg were hilarous too! The whole cast was great!
The only undersrudy I saw was Lucie Spina. I can not compare her to Lis Howard, but I thought she was hilarious and sarcastic with a beautiful voice. It was a pleasure to watch her play Rona Lisa Peretti
Making my Broadway debut was a truly surreal experience! It was one of the coolest things ever. So I can now officially declare my love for Spelling Bee. Now I need to see it again so I can watch the part I was in. Such a great expereince!
What are the chances of getting picked? It seemed like there were a lot of people who tried to be in it...
