I don't really get it. Not only is this recording incomplete, but Bono is featured on half the tracks. "Rise Above 1" has nothing to do with the show, if I'm not mistaken. "Rise Above 2" is the version featured on stage (and the best preview clip on iTunes). T.V. Carpio sounds fantastic on "Turn Off the Dark" as well. But I doubt I'll be buying this, in hopes of another recording with the missing songs being released (and without the unnecessary and anachronistic addition of Bono).
At least old man Bono didn't touch "Boy Falls from the Sky" "Just Can't Walk Away" and "If The World Should End".
But seriuosly though, why did Bono have to be on so many of these tracks? Just let Patrick Page sing it! UGH
Also, "I Just Can't Walk Away" sounds a bit weird with T.V. Carpio in it...when I saw the show she didn't sing in that song. Does she sing in it now? Updated On: 5/31/11 at 07:13 PM
Some of the songs also seem way under tempo, but clearly capturing the songs as they sound in the theatre was not the intent here. Maybe that would be preferable for some, but I'm not a fan.
I don't like how Bono is singing during some of the songs. If they are going to do that it should be a bonus track, and they should still include the version in the show with just the cast.

Maybe they'll release a second CD and call it "More Songs" from Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark? lol.
The whole approach seems more closely modeled after a movie soundtrack than an actual Broadway cast recording and some movie soundtracks do get a second volume with additional songs, but that's just wishful thinking on my part.
It is a bit of a shame that they didn't include the opening number or the finale. What cast recording has ever not included both the opening number and the finale?!?

I love what I've heard of my "unofficial" cast recordings, and I don't know why they would cut There Was a Girl and Behold and Wonder. I would love it if they would record the cut numbers from 1.0, especially Think Again and Deeply Furious. Women on the verge recorded the some of the cut numbers, and they sound great. Guess we will have to wait and see!

Just from the samples, the only song I even remotely is 'If The World Should End', but I'm not sure if this is just because I love Jennifer Damiano.
'Turn off the Dark' sounds like a bad cut from a Sara Brightman album.
WHAT is that awful song they are making Patrick Page sing?!

I know I'm in the minority, but I actually like the music. However, I do think If the world should end and walk away are a little boring though. I think that's just because the two songs are too similar and get repetitive.

Page sings A Freak Like Me. Its an odd song, but the way he pulls it off on stage with his antics is very amusing. I loved the song after seeing his performance of it.
Is it just me or do the songs featuring Bono and/or The Edge in it sound MUCH better produced than the other songs that are only sung by the cast members of the show?
I don't think the music with Bono sounds better at all... In fact I think they wound worse. I love Bono, but I want to hear the cast singing the music, not Bono.

Not sure if you guys remember- but a while back, Reeve posted on his twitter that they had just recorded an EP and he was so excited about it. This is most definitely the EP. I think it's a brilliant way to sell the show. It might not be great quality, but at 10 bucks for a CD on amazon, you'll have tons of U2 fans grabbing copies. And then the same people (and more) will get the actual cast recording when it is released.
....that being said, could someone try to rip the samples for me? My itunes isn't working!
Really like most of this. Sinisterio sounds like a great song from Ziggy Stardust. The abbreviated clip of "No More" doesn't do the actual song justice. As I've said before, the Rise Above songs are the showpieces here.
The comment about "Turn Off the Dark" sounding like Sara Brightman made me laugh out loud. Agree. I hear an absolutely GORGEOUS song in there somewhere, but where you think it should go up, it goes down, where it should simplify and break the clouds it gets mired down in vocal gymnastics. And what's up with the drums on Rise Above 2? Really? That song needs percussion?
In the end, it's still what I thought it was. 4 or 5 brilliant songs (Sky, Rise, World, No More, Sinistereo), 3 or 4 that could be so much better with added clarity (Picture, TOTD, DIY, Bouncing), and a couple that I just can't listen to (Freak, Trigger). Though I'll admit that Freak is a bit of a grower.
