Makes sense that they might want to announce it now since people may jump on-line after the American Idol performance looking for a cast recording. At least they'll be able to pre-order it. I still don't think it'll be out by opening night.
From the 2.0 song list and my memory of the 1.0 show, it doesn't really look like that much has changed (at least in the way of music). I imagine they recorded the 1.0 score pre-turmoil and could easily have gotten back in for a session or two to record any songs that have changed/added. It also seems like this show, by virtue of the composers, has been heavily recorded throughout the creative process. With some editing and augementation from these additional sessions, it's very easy to see how an experienced record producer could shepherd this out by 6/14.
I'm pretty sure "Deeply Furious" is being released as the b-side to the single version of "Rise Above" - they know what a hit the furies are with their female demographic. I heard something about dance remixes for it as well to help promote the album, but that was just in early discussion.
Looks like they are trying to tap into several demographics:
The Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark album is composed of songs co-authored by Bono and The Edge of U2. Featuring 14 new tracks, the LP was produced by frequent U2 collaborator Steve Lillywhite. Recorded by the talented cast of the Broadway production, this long player also features a single version from the musical entitled "Rise Above." This track showcases Reeve Carney who plays the role of Spider-man and also features performances by its composers Bono and The Edge.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
So let's figure the songs that will be in the CD. Probably something like that:
1/ "The Myth of Arachne,"/"Behold and Wonder," 2/ "Bullying by Numbers," 3/ "No More," 4/ "D.I.Y. World," 5/ "Bouncing Off the Walls," 6/ "Rise Above," 7/ "Pull the Trigger," 8/ "Picture This," 9/ "A Freak Like Me," 10/ "If the World Should End," 11/ "Spider-Man!," 12/ "Turn Off the Dark," 13/ "I Just Can't Walk Away," 14/ "The Boy Falls From the Sky,"
I love this score and the recent recordings are very promising. Can't wait. Updated On: 5/25/11 at 11:15 AM
1. "The Boy Falls From the Sky" (Reeve Carney Solo Version) 2. "Rise Above" (Talk Show Version) 3. "The Boy Falls From The Sky" (Bono Demo) 4. "Rise Above"(Bono & The Edge featuring Reeve Carney) 5. "The Boy Falls From The Sky" (Bono & The Edge featuring Reeve Carney) 6. "Rise Above" (Bono Demo) 7. "I Just Can't Wait to be King" (Original Broadway Cast) 8. "Rise Above (Mega Mix) 9. "Vertigo" (U2) 10. "Rise Above" (The Edge) 11. "The Boy Falls From The Sky" (Single Version) 12. "Rise Above" (Bonus Karaoke Track) 13. "The Boy Falls From The Sky"(Bonus Karaoke Track) 14. "Deeply Furious" (Bonus Cut Song)
I won't be seeing 2.0 until Saturday, but I thought I read there is a new finale called A New Dawn. Wouldn't that be on the album?
Or is the finale still Rise Above Finale. The album ending on Boy Falls is odd.
I would love for iTunes to have deeply furious and think again as bonus tracked. I would seriously die. I loved think again. And out of context, deeply furious has a great pop.
This is my number one album I have been WAITING FOR. my unofficial 1.0 recording is not the best. I want to hear the album! Cannot wait.

The finale is a reprise of "I Just Can't Walk Away" and "Rise Above." Don't expect this to be a traditional cast recording. It's highly likely that it will end with "Boy Falls From the Sky" and then the "Rise Above" bonus track with Bono. With 14 tracks they might not even include the prologue.
I hate it when they release a recording that seems to be not a full fledged cast recording, but something between a concept and a pop recording that's abbreviated and doesn't give a true representation of the score as it stands in the theater (kinda like the "Dreamgirls" album).
I'd rather Bono and the Edge just release their solo demos (if they exist) and officially call it "U2 sings Songs from Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark (with special guests)".
