It has to do with PAY not with 'status'. An understudy can't play a role for more than 3 weeks at understudy pay. (Even though they get extra pay each time they actually perform or play a different track) Their pay scale and contract must be renegotiated. However, I don't know how that pertains to more than one actor playing the role; ie Paris and Jay alternating Claude.

i would then think that Kaitlyn will be going on as Crissy soon if Hair follows those rules.

I'm thinking about legally changing my name to Lizzie Curry...
Other than (wisely) foregoing the jumps in I Got Life, he seemed alright, and was moving just fine. I hope he feels as well as he looked up there! I was thrilled when I saw the call board.
Yay I'm glad the ankle is getting better and I agree with Leia I hope he isn't trying too soon.
Oh and you guys know the version of Aquarius they have on hairthemusical.com? Its pretty funky and I like it... would anybody happen to have it/know how to get it?
So after talking to Paris after the show (yes, I'm a fangirl, I'm ashamed to admit, but admitting you have a problem is the first step), Gavin won't be doing matinees for at least this next week. Paris is going on as Claude tomorrow and then will be playing Woof when Bryce goes to be a brand new daddy.
Interesting night, though. Diane Paulus was there tonight, I guess to see how Gavin was doing with his new blocking. I didn't think Michael did a very good job as Hud but Allison is freaking awesome as mother and the monk lady. She is so different than Megan and she shakes during the whole holy orange coloured om, om on the range woman. The two people at the ends of row A were bald, Berger's mother was a 13 year old boy, people came late again, apparently 'cause they were trying to buy lottery tickets, and when the last of the group showed up, Bryce, who had just finished Sodomy, yelled "you came!" and ran to hug the guy. Will stood up and asked "did you get the tickets?" He held them up so Bryce said "I hope you win."
I agree it was a very interesting night at Hair. Some of the other changes to Gavin's blocking are him not being thrown up during the "Claude! Claude! Claude! -"Berger, help, it feels like I'm dying" part right before Three-Five-Zero-Zero. They basically just hold him and only yell Claude once. He's also not having his feet supported by Will during "Ain't Got No - Reprise."
Let it be known that my fave part of the show is during Sodomy and watching whoever is playing Claude and Crissy make up new positions. It's just plain silliness no matter who it is.
Berger's mom tonight was actually Kiril K. from Billy Elliot. This 40ish year-old man tried to sit behind him where the lottery ticket people were, and after they came he moved into the mezz. Creeps.
And in closing, I was really looking forward to seeing how MJS handles Hud. I have to admit that I wasn't a fan. And it's nice to have Brandon back in the tribe :)
I'm glad to hear that Gavin looked healthy tonight and that he is taking it easy and skipping matinees for a while. I wonder if he is going to do the Sunday show this weekend or take a break?
Oh, and did anyone else see how Arbender was announced as part of the Ragtime ensemble? He'll have been in Hair for what, 3 months?
Arbender was only there to help cover vacations, he left on Sunday.
I'm glad to hear Gavin came back, I hope his foot heals completely soon so that he's able to go at the show in full force. Hopefully he's not coming back too soon and throwing his foot out of whack even more.
Much of the cast was there, there were many b'way performers there as well -- the ones that spring to mind: Matt Doyle, Wes Taylor, Haydn Gwynne, Chris Seiber -- I'm sure there were others as well.
The speakers were: Oskar Eustis, Cleve Jones, Gavin Creel, David Stone, Sutton Foster.
It was interesting to be one of the few straight people in the audience...but the experience was moving and intense.
I'm sure the weather (continuous rain) kept many away, but I'm thinking there was dissappointment in the numbers.

Haha, I was thinking that the attention might actually get people to TRY to be late, which isn't good. (I know you were kidding, but I don't doubt there are people who would be serious!)
The rally was pretty amazing; and I'm straight. I went with a few friends, one of whom was gay. The whole thing was quite moving, and I think for me personally, had the intended effect. I had kind of been like Sutton was describing, that straight friend who sat on her ass and had lots of gay friends and talked about how much she loved them and supported them, but is now angry and wants to do something. And now I see that I *can* do something other than simply sit around and be angry and donate money, which has always seemed in this case, despite its importance, passive.
I love Cleve Jones. His story gives me goosebumps. I imagine him as being such a warm, charismatic person. Am I right? The rally in May was unbelievably moving as well. And I'm pretty sure I was one of the few straight ones there. I really wish I could go down to DC. I still might, but its a hard weekend to go.
I may get SLAMMED for saying this...but as a government teacher, the cynical side of me says that the time is not right for this fight for marriage equality. I personally think that as of now, the federal government has its hands tied with sooooo many issues that they can't even beging to THINK about marriage rights until they have other things squared away. Mainly healthcare. I view healthcare as a civil right as well, and feel that right now, healthcare affects more people and should be dealt with first. Now I am a HUUUUUGE advocate for marriage equality and would like nothing more than to have gay marriage legalized on a national level, however, I do feel that healthcare should be the prominent issue people should be fighting for now. And I feel like this is what Congress should be focusing on.
Like I said, I personally feel as though marriage equality is a huge issue and should be given the proper attention. I'm just afraid that, because of everything going on right now, marriage equality is wayyyy down on the list. And many will view the rally in DC as being one frivolous, which will detract from the actual issue at hand.
While I agree with you, obviously, about healthcare, I think that even if it's not the right time for Obama to tackle marriage rights for all, it is our duty to not let marriage equality get sidelined. Rallys like this are important to show how important this is to us. If we sit on our hands through healthcare, and then through bringing the rest of our soldiers home from Iraq, and then increasing money for education, and then increasing money for the arts, and then repealing 'don't ask, don't tell', and then outlawing capital punishment, etc. when the current administration is ready to make a decision, it'll be too late to rally masses to fight for our cause. Just look at healthcare and all the people against it because they don't understand what is going on.
We need to be heard NOW so it will be easier to listened to later and also so Obama knows that he needs to fix this problem make all people equal, no more and no less. I'm proud I live in New York state. While NY does not allow for gay marriages to be performed yet, it recognizes marriages and civil ceremonies performed in other states. So please run to CT (homestate:)), MA, VT-as of Tuesday, Maine-as of the 11th, New Hampshire-as of the first of next year, to get married or NJ, CO, HI, NV, OR, WI, WA or DC to have your civil union and hurry back to continue fighting for the cause for our own state and for the union. (and then apply for medicaid because, honestly, NY's medicaid system rocks)
It's like someone once said, "If not now, when?"
On different topic, I have been punished by the gods of Broadway for admitting fangirlishness by being completely bitten head to toe with bug bites.
