I can't figure out if this would be a blast or a nightmare, so I'm hoping someone's had first hand experience!

I went to one in Oklahoma City a couple years ago. It was advertised as, well, a rave, so I was expecting it to be remixes, but it's just the songs. There were often times where they played songs with dialogue in the middle that just made the space feel awkward. The rave portion were lights that didn't fit with the songs at all.

Showtunes I remember them playing are "Footloose" from the stage version Footloose, "Hello" from Book of Mormon, a couple "Wicked" songs, quite a few Disney songs. Mostly people just stood around swaying and singing along to the songs. This was at a 16+ venue.

I honestly wish I had thought of the idea, it's low-effort and seems like a lot of people were enjoying it. It could just be a lot better.

Haven't been, but saw Eden showed up at the last one and sang a bunch of Wicked and Lempicka songs.

Got the vibe that it's a bit like a very focused Con - cosplay and superfans.

I say this is as someone who listens to Showtunes at multiple times a day, Broadway Rave sounds corny as hell and their promo makes me cringe. Just call it a listening party.

I did really enjoy the two that I went to, though these were earlier on and I think the first one was better when it was in a smaller venue before they got bigger.  They do just play the songs with no remixes, but for me/my friends it was the ultimate fun time of having the experience of dancing in a club-like atmosphere where you know the words to all the songs, and as theater people, it's the songs we actually wanted to listen to that weren't really played in public.  We didn't really dress up at all but some people came in cosplay, and they'd let people get on the stage with a mic and sing along, and it was overall a very supportive atmosphere.  In a way I'd say it's kind of if you took the sing along vibe at Marie's Crisis and put them in a dark room with club lighting and a more Gen Z/younger millennial age group (we had a lot of songs from shows like Beetlejuice/Mean Girls/Wicked/Hamilton, but it might depend on the crowd at your location)

I agree with this. The hags, the alcohol, and the show tunes don't mix well.

Could be worse: I imagine the crowd demographic for the Broadway Orgy is about the same.

I believe that market is cornered by the host of Stage Time at the Slipper Room.

Three twinks go at it in a corner, a NYU Tisch sophomore girl is broken off like a glow stick by a very famous ensemble member, and the smell of Studio Ready hangs over everything... but this is all underscored by the limited edition uncut recording of the Legally Blonde OBC. The action slows down every time something like "Harvard Variations" comes on.

Those that hold the Overture track are considered HIGHLY desirable.

The orgies today are nothing like what went down in Cole Porter’s time. But at least we have the Ethel Merman Disco Album to provide some golden shower I mean golden age.

Jokes aside, there are so many theatre couples on a group-focused dating app, I’d be surprised if more theatre ‘sleepovers’ haven’t happened since Groff and Lea et al spent the night at the O’Neill.

Back on Musicals.Net in the old old days, sometimes people would post very dubious rumors or blind items that were probably more like urban legends. One particularly memorable one was that a short-lived musical, upon receiving notice of a very early closing, had an after-hours full cast orgy, onstage, in costume AND in character. (I associate the story with Good Vibrations, but it doesn't matter since it's probably not true at all; a similar legend is associated with the Adam West Batman series.)

If it’s anything like the mainstream sex and fetish club scene, the Venn diagram is a circle.
