Sweet Charity to transfer next season

And the good news is......

“I’m pretty happy with what Leigh did,” said Coleman. “I think she is speaking to a modern audience. But one thing I did learn from Cy is to fight for the orchestra, fight for every instrument you can get in there.”

And so when “Sweet Charity” moves to Broadway next season, “we’re going to have a lot more brass,” she said.

I am so happy to hear that. I liked aspects of the production, but the brassless orchestrations were a disaster. I hope they are completely changed for the transfer. Also, restore the title song to its original tempo, and rethink "Where Am I Going?" It did not work as a pop chorus number.

Great news if we can trust it, and so happy about the brass!

Wonder if they would have come in this year if the producers of In Transit weren't so eager to lose as much money as possible.

In Transit has nothing to do with Sweet Charity.. it's already been reported, less than a week ago (by Michael Musto) that the word is Othello will be making its long-rumored move to Circle in the Square this fall. (And even if Sweet Charity is in the mix, no way they give that theater to them over Daniel Craig and David Oyelowo and Sam Gold returning to his Fun Home 'home'Sweet Charity to transfer next season .

This revival, if it moves, will have to be rethought signfiicantly, in my opinion.

And not just the lack of brass in the orchestrations.

And not just because they won't be performing it in the round.

Maybe the Booth, golden, or Court (if Indecent doesn't work out for very long), or possibly even the marquis for if on your feet closes.

Marquis is too big. Circle in the Square, August Wilson, Jacobs, Booth, Golden should all be available come the Fall.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I don't think this tiny, minimalist (not saying either of those things as an insult, either) production would work in a barn like the Marquis.

Maybe the Booth, Cort or even Hudson? Or the Kerr if Amelie doesn't make it?

Fingers crossed so hard that Padgett is still involved.

If their going for a small and intimate production, I'd say the Booth or Cort are the best. Hoping that Amelie makes it but if it does close, Kerr could replace Cort as 2nd best option in terms of a small house.

I agree. I mentioned the Hudson because it has fewer seats than the Cort and could see it working in that space. My top choice, personally, would be the Kerr. I think it'd be a wonderful space for it.

This is great news. And yes, please please I demand that Emily, Nikka and Joel reprise their roles. (I don't demand a lot of things...) the whole ensemble is great. I like Schuler but think he was miscast..I can't wait. My husband will be thrilled to hear this news.

The only thing I really want changed desperately is for them to stage the songs to be show-stoppers. Rich Man's Frug, Rhythm of Life, and I'm a Brass Band should be big brassy numbers, not 3 people dancing the same two steps over and over in circles.

AGREED. The direction of the book scenes in particular, some of the choreography, and just the general tone and vision. And hopefully some better costumes and wigs. I've heard some argument about a few of those things being intentional but sometimes there's a wide gulf between intentional choices and successful ones.

I heard that Sonia Friedman is considering the Hudson for Dreamgirls next season but nothing set

I'm beyond overjoyed at the thought of a new cast recording of this show. The 05 Revival is a decent recording of the show, and if truth be told, the Revival cd is far more enjoyable than it was for me to actually sit through the out-of-town pre-Broadway engagement in Minneapolis is 2005 with Christina Applegate, however as exited as I am for this to transfer, I'm even more excited at having Sutton's renditions of this classic score on repeat in my iPhone!!! ????

F yes baby hit me with that brass gurl!!!

My main issue with the show off Broadway was with the lack of brass. The show was missing the energy that I'm used to hearing. It sounded pretty rinky tinky. I hope that they keep the bare bones nature of the production when they move it however.

Weird. I was just thinking earlier tonight that I'd like to see this show on Broadway, since I've only seen the movie.

I'd also like a million dollars. Worth a shot.
