I saw their dress rehearsal.
I don't want to give away spoilers.
I thought it was o.k. Not what I expected.
Some of the songs I could do without.
At times I felt it dragged a little.
Even though it was about 70minutes, it felt longer.
It felt like a re-invented "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", and it's funny because almost half of the kids in the show, were in Chitty.

Was anyone there tonight?
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

The dress rehearsal was actually the first time they had run through the show. Glad to hear they made it through, at least. I'm sure it'll tighten up once they get a run or two under their belts.

There was a review on ATC....some minor flubs, the girl who plays Cindy wasn't that great, Patrick looked lost on the stage, and John made a few line flubs.
Not bad for a first preview.
And the show clocked in at 70 minutes.

If I see this, it will be closer to the holidays. I have no desire to go see this show in October.

70 minutes? Is there an intermission?

Don't think so.
The original run time was said to be 90 minutes, but who knows. It's the reason they do 100 shows a day.

I saw the show last night, I wasnt really entertained. Very catored to kids, I just didnt feel the magic.
As a patron of Christmas Carol I find myself really missing the annual run. In Christmas Carol I really felt like there was a beauty to both the music and the story, but Grinch was just a holiday money-maker.
Performances were ok, not great, but the music wasnt very good. I guess the performers can only do so much with certain material.
Set was nice, seussical like but with grinch story.
lol i wish jim carry would do it.......

I did A Christmas Carol at the theatre at MSG for it's final year, 2003, and I miss it so much! Those 5 months of being involved with the show were some of the best of my life

Did it fit well into the big theater? What's the highest ticket price for this?

What percentage of the dialogue was in rhyme?
Who sings "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch"?
Who sings "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch"?
"Ev'ry-buddy wants ta get into de act!"
- Jimmy Durante
"Breathe from your hoo-hoo."

I'm in the minority, but I love the Jim Carey movie, despite the length. Even the excesses. And the sweet James Horner score (Cindi Lou's "Where Are You Christmas?" is sadly haunting.) But the material is tough -- it doesn't scream stage show, unless widly imaginative. If the score doesn't land, it could feel like a bad British pantomine.

A Christmas Carol totally hooked me into theatre about 12 years ago . . . I miss it dearly.

again, the musical is not based on the Jim Carrey movie, and does not feature "Where Are You Christmas?" or any of the original James Horner music from the film. the musical version features lyrics and a book by Timothy Mason with the music written by Mel Marvin, but still does incorporate "You're A Mean One, Mister Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas". the show was written and performed annually in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre a few years prior to the movie's inception.

That doesn't answer any of my questions. Who sings "Mr. Grinch" and approximately what percentage of the dialogue is in rhyme?
"Ev'ry-buddy wants ta get into de act!"
- Jimmy Durante
"Breathe from your hoo-hoo."
-Kristin Chenoweth
