This is now a Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) or Schmigadoon situation.

I agree with Jordan here. And both the Times and Vulture, though filled with specific quibbles, express a kind of awe about the way the show got to them. We cannot underestimate the voiced gasps about the physical production, the world-building that makes style and content blur. Several reviews make a point of appreciating the show solely for its entertainment value to the consumer. These notices are all filled with pull-quotes. I think the consensus reads positive.
(But do notice Feldman's astute review, how closely he adheres to the very points so many of us raised here: that second act just feels like a detour when the show needs to plunge deeper. Again, I will sing the praises of the posters here for such shrewd and spot-on analysis of the show's craft. Much thoughtful discourse from the first preview on.)

Huh? This simply does not happen in the production.

Put your phone down and pretend like you’re having a good time at the opening you’re allegedly attending.

DID THEY LIKE IT ? - Broadway’s latest vampire musical certainly doesn’t suck, but it does lack bite.

Just curious what other people think. What percent chance does this have of winning Best Musical?

Idk, honestly this might be one of the toughest best musical races I've ever witnessed...

I would put it as a third place at this moment, total underdog. But I'd say it wouldn't be coherent for it to win at this point, perhaps 20% chance if generous.
This year, the focus is on musical revivals. The future for new Broadway musicals is grim.

There's plenty to pull from in that NYT review, and enough that some on-the-fence buyers could be intrigued. "STUNNING. The finest spectacle I’ve seen this season" will probably be plastered everywhere.
Will it convince the "traditional New York theatergoer" to buy? I don't know. But this show's target demo may not care what legacy media has to say. It will be a big test of (a) how well they can stoke word of mouth, and (b) how much young-ish people will pay for this. That $83 average price needs to rise by $30 to $40+ or they'll bleed dry, it was only $83 last week.

Schmigadoon and Titanique have a much easier path at this point than Lost Boys. Not impossible, but they would have a very tough battle.

interesting...So I guess we're perhaps looking at another Avenue Q v. Wicked situation on Broadway

They already said at the top of the page.
Also, they've spent months bashing this show so you can be assured they would rank it dead last.

Reviews are only one aspect of what determines Tony winners. There are 800-odd voters and critics make up a statistically irrelevant part of that body and frankly reviews a whole don’t matter much unless there is overwhelming consensus in either direction, positive or negative. Plenty of very well-reviewed shows and performances have gone home empty handed; plenty of shows with adequate reviews have taken home big prizes.

How on earth could Titanique win it’s a JOKE it’s a PARODY MUSICAL. The Cake musical looks incredibly boring and dull How on earth could that be the Best Musical?. Schmigadoon looks good but can’t imagine it being as good as this I was simply blown away by the special effects, powerful vocals, large sets, the acting was incredible and how each of them were so rooted in their characters. This is what Broadway has been missing the cake musical is what is wrong with Broadway today small and dull. Lost Boys for the win!!

So you haven't seen the other shows but feel comfortable judging and bashing them based on your uninformed opinion? Thank you for your contribution.

No, because Wicked was a clear winner, that year was a huge exception. Before the Tonys, Wicked had won best musical in practically everything.
I don't think this year there is a clear front runner.

Now that I’ve seen all the new musicals, my recommendation for out-of-town casual theatergoers would be Titanique, if you want a rollicking good time (and are familiar with the movie), or The Lost Boys (which I wasn’t crazy about), if you’re looking for a big, flashy musical about vampires. Schmigadoon! will likely be lost on many audiences since its humor depends heavily on affection and knowledge of classic film-musical tropes. And while I loved Two Strangers, it is just too small a show for those expecting a big Broadway musical experience. For revivals, I greatly admired the creativity of Cats: The Jellicle Ball, but I’d be sending them to the stellar Ragtime.

Ragtime was a gorgeous production and the obvious choice for Best Revival can’t believe it’s even a debate. You have ragtime a classy, elegant regal production with a large orchestra, soaring vocals, and an incredibly nuanced portrayal of the characters by Joshua Henry, Cassie Levy and the entire cast. Lost Boys I think is by far the Best New Musical and in my opinion the best new musical we have had in YEARS. I agree with you about Two Strangers it is way too small for Best Musical or for someone to spend over 200+ on a ticket for. It’s on TDF almost everyday. I think the same thing about Cats which I know is unpopular on here I don’t want to pay $250 to watch a fashion show I want sets, costume, a soaring orchestra THATS BROADWAY. I am also hoping Queen of Versailles gets a nomination for something while it wasn’t perfect I think the production was unfairly treated and better than most people said it was. I enjoyed it. Beaches was terrible I love Vosk and wanted to like this but it just was too dull. Titanique has basically the same set the whole time and is a parody of the movie not an actual adaptation how on earth could that win?

Agreed. I've seen shows which the critics have been mixed to meh about which people in the industry love and they are the ones making up the majority of votes.
