We definately need to hear Sharon Wilkins as Evilene. She could easily win the Tony Award and give a once-in-a-lifetime performance in the role. I'm also up for Lillias White in The WiZ!
I also know that Alan Mingo Jr. is trying out for the part of the Tinman or at least to get cast. Hopefully he will.

I've recently learned of some of the casting that has been completed...which will be announced soon--Trust me, it's good stuff. I'm sure that the choices will not disappoint.
"I need to know that someone out there cares...Are you there?"
RustyJusty, why drop information like that when you can't tell us? What's the point?
I don't like the whole "hip hop" vibe. I hate when older people (esp old white men) try to make something "hip hop" because they think it will reach a younger generation. What they usually end up creating is something totally unrelatable and distant and horribly cheesy. Hopefully they'll prove me wrong with this one.
I just thought many posters might be interested to know that many of the rumours are untrue and that the casting will be announced soon. I wasn't at all trying to "drop information".

I believe they are trying to get the cast mixed. They don't want just a black cast.
She's 43?! Dang...

Mos Def for Tin Man and Savion Glover for Scarecrow. Come on, you know it would be awesome. Actually both could play either, I just prefer it that way. And yes Mary Bond Davis or Jennifer Holliday should play Evilene.
I got rid of my teeth at a young age because... I'm straight. Teeth are for gay people. That's why fairies come and get them
I'd be cool with multi-racial casting, if they multi-racial casted some other shows.
And I'm happy to hear Sho-sho will not be Dorothy. She's doing everything she can to move in on the African-American front short of getting plastic surgery, ala Mr. Jackson.
Really excited for this casting. Let's make this one a hit, Mr. Des.
I heard from a reliable source that Michael Benjamin Washington is one of the leads (I don't remember which role it was) and that Nikki was Dorothy. I thought it was Nikki Renee Daniels, but I guess Nikki James makes sense too.

I hope that Shoshana realizes that although she may sing like Mariah she ain't nobody's black girl! I really have no problem with Mary Testa being a part of this (as she is fabulous and had the most amazing weave at the Public Theater benefit a few months back) but I'd rather she play Addapearle and let Sharon Wilkins take a bite out of Evilline. Brandi Chavon (I know she auditioned) is my pick for Dorothy and I'd love to see Vanessa L. as Glinda the Good.
Zach... but please God don't let BD Wong play the Wiz

I saw the tour in the late 1980's with Andre and Stephanie Mills. The costuming was very clever. The residents of OZ were very up-to-date (this was the MC Hammer era)except for The Wiz himself - he was dressed in the same 1970's white jumpsuit with the big platform shoes and giant Afro. It was as if he landed in Oz ten years earlier and he was not going to updarte his look.
Stephanie Nills was amazing - nearly 15 years after she originated the part, she still looked like a 14 year old.
I vote for LaChanze. But she's in LCP and she is 43...
Vanessa Williams, Ben Vereen... all come to mind.
While I was high school, I was in a production. Even though 90% of the cast was white
