"I will miss not having the yellow Brick Road as dancers in Yellow tails sporting yellow Afros and walking sticks!"
Best12bars and CarlosAlberto i agree with you, but keep in mind that in the making of The Wiz Live special that Kenny Leon did say that when the production goes to Broadway way that he would explore different ways to do the yellow brick road and that it would be done in a more creative way than it is on the live tv special.
I think there is a big difference from having the yellow brick road live on a stage verses it being filmed for the small screen. I get way that they are probably not using dancers for the yellow brick road for the live TV special. In the past as we all know when it comes to filming large dance numbers on TV it just ends up looking like a hot mess with bad camera angles and horrible close ups, so i am sure that they purposely decided not have dancers as the yellow brick road for this live TV production because it might look to crowded and cluttered on film with the 4 main lead plus 6 or 8 dancers as the yellow brick road dancing around the them the whole time. It is just cleaner on film for the camera and audience just focus on the main characters and not all the extra stuff moving around them. They did say they wanted the focus to be on the characters in the making of special.
Keep in mind that this is for TV so they have to think about close ups and camera angels to create those intimate moments ; things have to be streamlines because the audience is not getting the full stage picture view as if they were sitting in the theatre which is a wide open view and you can see everything all at once.
Maybe for the Broadway production they will use more of the Cirque Du Soleil performers for the yellow brick road? Also in another interview Kenny said that he is watching to see what parts of the live TV production and creative team he wants to take with him for the Broadway production.
I am sure that once this production moves to broadway a lot of changes will be made. I am sure they want to make it look somewhat different than what will air tonight because why would people buy a ticket to go see it on broadway when they can just watch the DVD at home for free. Kenny is a smart and creative man , I trust he knows what he is doing.

Yes, and he further went on to say that they were looking at doing it with light being projected onto the floor. A technical tweak.
So no dancers. They lose that creative genius in favor of modern science.

I am looking forward to this but am really concerned about the updating thing again...
remember the Diana Ross was a bomb and that was "updated" ....I loved the original ...and seeing the outfit that Dorothy has on in this already has me very skeptical...the need to make things that work "better" always scares me
Before one discusses Broadway, I think first we need to look at how things are done tonight. With listings about the ten o clock news, I am beginning to doubt if someone knows how long is the duration of the performance itself. The photographs taken during rehearsal clearly gives you the idea that its a mixture of the 1975 musical and the MGM movie. How that will work out??? Remains to be seen

I think it's safe to discuss what may or may not be done in regards to Broadway. It was established that this is going to be transferred to Broadway when this was announced back in March.

I do remember him saying that . Lets just hope that Kenny or someone in is camp is reading this board and will change their minds and add dancers as the yellow brick road for broadway!
I think it would have made more since to have light projected on the floor or a floor that lights up as the yellow brick road for the live tv production since the production value and budget is probably bigger and could be be technically elaborate to do it on a large sound stage verses trying to do it on a smaller broadway stage.
I agree, and actually I think they ARE doing the initial part of the Yellow Brick Road with lights on the floor. Maybe that interview was conducted early on, but there is a production photo of Shanice starting down the road, and it looks to me like it's done with lighting.

Brandy was on Wendy Williams this morning and said she wants to play Dorothy when the Wiz comes to Broadway LOL she also said that she really wanted to play the part in the live TV production, but "they changed the script and made Dorothy a 18 year old girl instead of a 31 year old teach" LOL she needs to stop!!! clearly she does not know that Dorothy was never a 31 year old teacher in the broadway production!

The character was never 31 years old in any version. In the 1978 film adaptation Dorothy is 24 years old.

I mean, does it really even matter? Brandy needs to learn that her dream of being Dorothy isn't going to happen. I'm surprised no one has corrected her by now. Anyway, looking forward to tonight!

Theatre_Nerd: I know that, I am just telling you what Brandy said!

Here's a bit of history that I did not know of before today - there was an attempted comic book adaptation of the film version of The Wiz. Truly. http://www.newsfromme.com/2015/12/03/wiz-comics/

RW3: EXACTLY, THANK YOU!!!"
I'm not understanding the defensive tone from either one of you as I was just stating a fact. I am aware that you were only quoting Brandy musicaltheaterman2.
I know that in the grand scheme of things it may not matter to you RW3, or to anyone else for that matter. Again, I was only stating facts.
Just because I used an exclamation point and used all caps does not mean that I was upset, unpleasant or being defensive lol I was actually laughing at Brandy's ridiculous statement and enthusiastically agreeing with RW3's statement.
Rule of thumb when reading post online theatre_nerd, never read to deep into what people write and put your personal feeling aside. You will never know how people feel or what is going through their minds when they post comments so don't try to figure it out I am sure you know this, but just a reminder
