I love love love Chicago....but I've never been to the Ravinia festival. I'd like to go next year if Patti's there.

Oh, and if you get a chance to see a show at the Chicago theater - architecturally, it is one of the most beautiful theaters in the world.

off topic here - but while in Chicago, you have to go to Gino's pizza on N. Well's street. YUM!

I'm 708 miles away. Gotta love airplanes. An 11 hour drive, no thanks!

You guys must get your priorities straight! No matter how far you are, you have to go see The Patti in Sweeney Todd! re: The 'Official' Patti LuPone Appreciation Thread

Just out of curiosity - does Patti make an appearance at Ravinia every year?

That's one loooong road trip! Hopefully, it will still be open in Nov. It's down 11% compared to last week. :/

I bought a Nov. 3rd (my birthday!) ticket to Les Mis, maybe I'll get a double treat and get to see Sweeney one last time. That'd be amazing!!

She's been there every year since they created the "Sondheim 75" festival to celebrate his 75th birthday, starting with "Sweeney" in 2001. That series had its official end last summer with "Anyone Can Whistle," but they're continuing it (sort of) with "Gypsy." Thank Christ.

I, for one, really hope that the Sweeney grosses were what they were because of Patti's vacation.

Speaking of, is anyone (besides myself) attending the July 2nd show? I'll be there (center Row D) - I got my ticket so that I could see Patti's last performance, just in case she didn't extend.

I'm doing a long road trip to Ravinia. I believe Mapquest told me it was around 1300 miles. Eeek! I would fly, but it's hurricane season. I'm not taking the (small) chance of there being a storm and the airports closing.

SeptemberKel - I *almost* bought tickets for July 2nd. I'm glad I waited because it would have been a lot more money to extend my trip. Oh, the things we do to see Patti!

In the original leaflet that came with the Les Mis cast recording, it said that they found her (Patti) from the world of Rock Opera, along with Colm Wilkinson. Being a Patti novice, I want to know, was she small time before Les Mis? She's brilliant on the recording.

The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

Definitely not "small time"—I think they were referring to "Evita" as a rock opera.

Great pic, Sarah! I wish I had one... maybe Sunday if I decide to do the stage door and if Patti feels as accomodating as she usually does. re: The 'Official' Patti LuPone Appreciation Thread

Anyone else have a picture to share?

re: The 'Official' Patti LuPone Appreciation Thread

I had a discount code for two tickets, but had to pay the full $120 for the Sat. night show. It's worth it. I've actually sat in BB-1 before. haha. I don't LOVE being on the side, but it's better than 9 rows back, IMO. Especially, with a show like this, where every little motion, and facial expression is key.

Yes, that picture was taken at the Donmar Warehouse. Boy, you ARE a Patti LuPone fan! LOL. You know, someone else took a picture of me with Patti that same evening and sent it my way as well. I have no idea why they did that but it was a nice gesture. I think the one I posted is the better of the two....and that's not saying much! I'll post the other photo if I can find it.

Someone mentioned a few pages ago Patti singing "Being Alive" from the Sondheim Celebration concert -

THAT IS MY FAVORITE RECORDING OF ANY SONG, EVER!

I honestly must hear that at least 3 times a day driving back and forth to work. That voice is AMAZING.

I saw "Sweeney" again the other night from row BB center...the closest I had been previously was row H on a student ticket, and when the curtain went up the other night I was nearly in shock. They were RIGHT there. And Miss Patti glanced down at me a few times and I honestly could have died right there in that seat!

I loved sitting so close, myself! When Patti would look at me (I was right in front of her on the left - where most of her "down time" is), I would get all nervous/shocked/in awe and look the other way. The 'Official' Patti LuPone Appreciation Thread I'm far too old to be behaving that way, but it's Patti, you know? I was in AA that time. Sunday I'll be in D101. Hopefully it'll be decent. Kate, did you get spit on?
