Possibly Vacant Theatres

Shubert
St. James

Possible Shows
American Idiot
Catch Me If You Can
Come Fly With Me
Enron
Fences
Lend Me A Tenor

Any predictions?

Although the recent West End dominance over the Broadhurst, I would imagine "Enron" would get swallowed there. If I were working for the Shuberts, I would try to get "Fences" booked into there, unless "Memphis" doesn't make it through the winter, in which case they could probably do well with a limited run there until another big fall show comes along. I would think "Enron" would work better in the Lyceum or the Music Box.

It sounds like "Come Fly With Me" is the likely next tenant of the Marquis. I know there has been mixed word about whether "Catch Me If You Can" will go for spring or fall. But if they did want spring, I would imagine they would be staking at the St. James, as that seems like the large house with the likeliest financially unstable tenant.

Also, does anyone know if LCT will be doing another spring show in a Shubert house?

I don't see Memphis gone by the spring. I see it sticking through the Tony's. Fela! may not make it to the spring. And isn't Come Fly With Me taking the Marquis??

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

VodkaStinger, just curious. Why do you refuse to include A Little Night Music at the Walter Kerr as a confirmed show in your posts?

When I first started that list I was updating it for spring shows. I didn't include any of the fall shows, such as "Race", "Fela!", "Night Music", et al.

Even if Birdie closes sooner than April 25th...the next show to go into the Henry Miller's has to be a Roundabout Show seeing as how they own the theatre.

I'm going to go ahead and say that after Birdie the Henry Miller's will remain vacant until Roundabout opens Anything Goes.

I thought Roundabout had a contract with the Henry Miller for so long, do they actually own it?

Roundabout has a 20 year lease on the Henry Miller. They do not own it. They intend to use it for productions that they expect to have open-ended runs on Broadway. However, when they don't have a show to go into the house, they will make it available for commercial non-Roundabout productions. There are shows looking at the house for spring, 2010, if Roundabout makes the decision to not continue the run of Birdie past the departures of its stars in January.

Any word regarding the Broadhurst or the Music Box?

ALSO

mywonderwa11: any offical word in re Anything Goes? The last word on the subject, I thought, was Reidel a year or two ago when he mentioned Reba McEntire as a potential star.

Reba is no longer in the running for Anything Goes. The production will happen...it's just a matter of when. I believe one of the leading ladies Roundabout wants is contracted on a hit ABC show...so, she is unavailable. But, there are certainly other fantastic ladies they have in mind.

Smaxie, you are correct about Roundabout's claim on the Henry Miller's, but they are going to go ahead and keep the show (Birdie) open until April.

Much obliged Wondy! Still, your comment about an ABC star taking over the role is really disheartening.

My understanding is that a Licoln Center show has the Broadhurst in April.

ljay - not a believer?

As far as I know, which is a lot, Roundabout is planning on keeping Birdie running until April with replacements for John and Gina joining the cast in January (on separate days since Gina's contract ends two weeks before John's).

Play Esq - While having a television or movie actress star as Reno in Anything Goes would usually make me skeptical as well, I believe THIS television actress would be my exception.

The two well known (Broadway) actresses that are in mind for the role don't thrill me. Eh, we'll see...

Does anyone know where ENRON is going? The Music Box or Lyceum, perhaps?

I haven't heard anything about a Lincoln Center show going into the Broadhurst (though my guess would be WOMAN ON THE VERGE... would be the show in question,) but I do know that the FENCES producers looked at the theater recently.

There was a rumor going around last week that EVERYDAY RAPTURE may be taking the Music Box for a limited run.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

mywonderwa11: I'll trust your opinion, but I can't think of anyone on the ABC roster who can belt out Reno Sweeney songs. (And trust me, I have been looking when I should be working!)

The only actress that comes to mind is Audra McDonald (on Private Practice)...and though perfect in everything, I'm not certain she would be a perfect fit for the part.

There was talk on ATC recently that LEND ME A TENOR was having funding problems following the departure of T.R. Knight.

I'm curious to see if the producers look to another "name" to help increase potential ticket sales. I love Tony Shalhoub, but he doesn't carry much mainstream box office weight.

I really want to know if WOMEN ON THE VERGE is opening this season, it's easily one of my favorite films and the workshop cast was out of the world.
I guess we can add the Henry Miller to the list of vacant theatres. What's going to take it?
