Sunset was never getting a nomination for choreography with the number of options this season.
So disappointed by the omission of David Thaxton. And, to a lesser degree, Jinkx Monsoon & CULT OF LOVE for Best Play. Overall though, a pretty solid list.

Twelve shows were shut out entirely: “All In: Comedy About Love,” “Cult of Love,” “Elf,” “Home,” “Left on Tenth,” “Job,” “McNeal,” “Othello,” “Redwood,” “Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends,” “Tammy Faye” and “The Last Five Years.”
Glengarry Glen Ross only getting in for Bob Odenkirk is a bit surprising. R+J taking its revival slot is also surprising.
Looks like the eligible shows that came up empty this morning were Home, Job, Once Upon a Mattress, McNeal, Let on Tenth, Tammy Faye, Elf, Cult of Love, Redwood, Othello, The Last Five Years, and Old Friends.

Glengarry shut out except for Odenkirk. Othello and Old Friends shut out completely. Surprised that Mincemeat missed for direction, and super bummed about Helen J Shen.

Seems like the nominators didn't vibe with Pirates! They only got the one nomination for Best Revival, which I did not see coming.

Surprised that Rashad was overlooked for Purpose. Interesting that RWHC got in for Score- well deserved, though I probably enjoyed BOOP's more (and both were way better than the garbage in Death Becomes Her).
Wild that they were so mad at Othello and Glengarry Glen Ross that they nominated Romeo and Juliet for Best Revival. What a crappy year for play revivals.
While I am glad that they didnt turn Best Supp Actress into a lifetime achievement award for Bernadette or Lea, it is astounding to me that Joy Woods was nominated for what she did here in Gypsy. Not her fault that she was directed this way but pretending her performance was one of the best of the season is simply insulting.
Interesting they picked Trensch over Sieber... tough morning for Bianca Leigh, though hard to argue that either of the English actresses weren't worthy.
Really surprised that RWHC didn’t do much better considering the strong WOM, topical themes, and good reviews. Perhaps it came in too late in a crowded season. The lack of major nominations are really not good news for its prospects- same with Boop.
Also kind of surprised that Pirates didn’t land better with the nominators. I figured somebody from the cast would get in.
I do take some pleasure in seeing a Mamet production be almost entirely shut out, though.
Kara Young has made history AGAIN by extending her record for most consecutive nominations:
- in the same acting category
- by ANY acting nominee
- by any African American nominee

I didn't realize Glengarry only got the single nomination for Odenkirk. Good for him.
Smash only getting two is also correct (though bypassing Ashmanskas entirely and only giving Bergasse the choreography nom would have been more correct).
Bob Martin not getting nominated for either Boop! or Smash's books: also correct.

I thought Joy Woods was wonderful and would choose her over two actresses who already have Tonys performing in a revue. I’d also choose Lesli Margherita over them as well.

Wow, they really loved Buena Vista Social Club, it even got into book when most people seemed to agree the book was the weakest aspect of the show. Dead Outlaw also did very well, and so did Maybe Happy Ending. Really happy that Taylor Trensch got his first nomination, he's fantastic in Floyd Collins.
Robert Downey Jr & the whole team behind McNeal must be disappointed. They probably thought they were a sure thing when the project started - and made plenty of money - but these aren't awards for how well you printed money.

Yes to the first and last, but she's tied with Laurie Metcalf for most consecutive at 4 now.
I am thrilled about Tala Ashe and Marjan Neshat getting nominations. Possibly my two favorite acting performances of the season but I thought they wouldn’t get in because they might have felt too quiet/understated in a crowded field. So wonderful to see them both in there!

This was not the morning Boop and Real Women Have Curves needed. I think both those shows are not long for this world unfortunately.
I'm shocked that David Thaxton missed and that Odenkirk was the only representative for GGR. I'm glad I didn't cool much on Buena Vista doing well in my predictions.
Definitely a rebellion from the nominatiors of the big events this year. Good Night and Good Luck did OK but a big middle finger to Othello and GGR.

Honestly, I forgot McNeal even happened.

Not a surprising list, except Helen J Shen should've gotten in. I think we can give the Tony to Maybe Happy Ending already.

Five acting noms for Purpose but nothing for Rashad’s direction is just weird.
Slightly surprised that Thom Sesma had all the momentum for a nomination for a whole year but was beat out by his castmate Jeb Brown.
I really hoped more for Real Women Have Curves, and I'm afraid this doesn't bode well for the show or Machado's chance for a win.

Is the Skeets Miller role and or Taylor’s performance really worth a nomination? I don’t know the show well but he seems to have made an impression with a part that wouldn’t seem very top-of-mind.
