Here's another review (more like a recap of previous reviews) but still, it is certainly good news for everyone involved in the production...
Some cuts have been made to the show (noticed them at last night's performance). I think only one threw me off (compared to earlier versions of the show) but if the powers-that-be felt it necessary, hey...who am I to fight? LOL
Took Lonnie's lines out of Too Much Time, shortened the dialogue intro to Wanted Dead or Alive, shortened the chorus / bathroom stall part of "I Want to Know What Love Is"...those are the ones I distinctly remember.
BUT...
There's a GREAT new visual at the beginning of Act 2 that I won't give away, but it is VERY funny...
I will certainly take a "not a 'no'" concerning the cast recording. Admittedly, I am a sucker for cover albums, and this would be the ultimate cover album, in my opinion.
Well...Coming over to remember what my screen name is over here! It's been awhile *cough* Wedding Singer days *cough* More cuts, eh? Can't wait to see what the new visual is but I will...I love surpises. Question...Haven't seen it since Kelli's been back...At the part where Mama is telling Drew-Pizza-Boy about the Stacy Jaxx altercation...did they re-instate the slo-mo video to the storyline or was that a permanent cut? That got SUCH big laughs in previews, I was surprised it was cut, but then someone said maybe it was because of Lara's being in and therefore the visual wouldn't match up?
Nope..I think the slo-mo video is gone for good. I love Justice's delivery of the line "Loudest smack I ever heard!" and it is something of a tender moment, Drew learning Sherrie's true (lack of) feelings for Stacee. Playing it for laughs takes you out of the moment.
Hmmm- my post R of Ages resolution to spend less time on the internet may need some adjustment...
Withdrawals have set in in spite of our beautiful fall weather in the southwest- but what a great week of music and fun I had in NYC! Hope I can make it back again before too long- the show is so addicting. Meanwhile, I'm already in line for a cast album..or several! And Lizzy, how do I find out what the addition is at the beginning of the second act, just in case I don't get back to the show (HINT!)?
BWW has posted on their main news page the scoop I've been posting about all week - the FABULOUS costume contests, ticket discounts ($25!!!!) and drink specials for the two Halloween shows this Friday Night!
I'm thinking about taking my boyfriend to see Rock of Ages for his 26th birthday. He's a music lover and likes going to the theater. This musical looks like a lot of fun! The only thing I'm worried about is that lacks a deeper plot or cast of characters, both of which I know he'd appreciate. Can anyone provide some insight?
Also, what type of crowd can I expect for the Sunday matinee?
When you go, just plan on having a good time and don't worry about a deep plot. It's a feel good, fun time with a lot of laughs. The music is great. They weave the songs into the story and it's great just watching how that all comes together.
The cast is a very talented ensemble led by Constantine Maroulis. He can sing the heck out of these songs, and he plays a sweet role. Will Swenson is hilarious, too. Mitchell Jarvis is the narrator who glues the stories together with a lot of laughs.
You'll have a good time, nothin' but a good time.
Jekyll & Hyde back on Broadway! / Rock of Ages - 5 Tony nominations! Awesome!
