No casting has been announced yet, though I imagine it will be pretty soon.
The question is will it be local talent or a more potentially Broadway-friendly name?

Is it is Minneapolis? Love the little bit of marquee that I see.

Yes, it is in Minneapolis.
Rumor I’ve heard is there will be some cast changes for the eventual Broadway run due to scheduling conflicts.

Wow. If this is on Broadway next year it may be the Tony winner.
Holy God, those voices. And Kris Kollins is similar to Prince in every way imaginable. WOW.
I hope this goes over well and transfers this season. It's currently a snoozefest of announced new musicals so far.
Agreed, it's boring AF right now.

I have been a pretty hardcore Prince fan since his second album, "Prince". When I heard about this musical my immediate thought was that they better find someone good to play "The Kid". I just went searching for videos of Kollins and found one that, in my opinion, shows off his Prince like vocals. I think he will have this part down vocally and hope he also has the Prince moves and acting ability to pull this off. After watching this video, I am now a bit more excited for this show.

The Kid is also a weird part because it was both based on and played by Prince, who has insane and unusual charisma but who was never accused of being a great or nuanced actor. So, there's surely a CHARACTER to be played here, but in the shadow of the unique PERFORMER who nominally played that role.

Yes. Kind of the same thing went through my mind. Are they going to direct him to play it more like the character in the movie or closer to Prince's real personality? Prince was not the best actor in the world so Kollins may be able to pull off the character a bit better.

this could be as big as MJ musical.

By the way, for those who were complaining about the prices for the Dolly musicals early run in Nashville, the issue is no different in Minneapolis. An orchestra seat will run you about $250 on a good night
I'm looking at trying to see it shortly after opening in early November, possibly to see it and the Guthrie's Primary Trust on the same weekend.

Is it really 30 million? Has there been a workshop?

Yes and yes.
Big financial gamble, and also a gamble on a director who has done great work with plays but has never helmed a very successful musical. It's often hard to tell what will be a monster hit like MJ or BEAUTIFUL vs a flop like THE CHER SHOW or SUMMER vs something in between like BEAUTIFUL NOISE or TINA.

There are so many big names attached to this, I'm hoping it's a success.

It looks like a $29.5 million raise, according to an SEC filing that lead producer Orin Wolf made for “PR Musical, LLC.” I think it’s safe to assume they’re the same project.
