Hope no one is hurt too badly.
"London police say there are "a number" of casualties following the apparent collapse of a theater's roof."
Very sad news.

Seems to actually be part of the balcony that collapsed.
More Details
No its the ceiling thats collapsed in on the stalls according to people who were in the theatre
terrible news. I hope everyone is ok.
I hope no one was injured.
How awful.
Horrifying. Hoping for the best for all involved. I was in a theatre once when there was an earthquake. It was the most disorienting thing and very frightening.
I'm sure the hideous jokes will come soon about raising the roof or bringing down the house.
Cue the tacky ...
London police:
"We are aware of a number of casualties but we have no further detail at this early stage."
Oh man, that is just heartbreaking.
Up to 40 people in injured - London Fire Brigade tweet
reports are only 20-40 injured as of right now, which is amazing because I was at that theatre in September and it's extremely small, but the orchestra is totally exposed, as the balconies do not extend out far at all. This is awful.
An eyewitness is saying it's the actual balcony, but that there was so much smoke and dust and chaos, that he couldn't be exactly sure. He said the actors were all pointing up at the ceiling and in obvious distress. They called "watch out" to the audience, and the audience thought it was part of the play.
I'm curious if anyone knows how often theatres are inspected for structural issues. Especially the older ones. There are many on Broadway and in the West End (and throughout the world, for that matter).

I'm curious too, I always thought if that rigging that holds the lighting and speakers gave way, or a light or a speaker fell, there would be absolutely carnage and always felt quite uncomfortable sitting there.

RE: Phantom of London signature line. As posted earlier today by Phantom of London on another thread:
There is no guidelines on BWW how long a signature can be, I didn't intend for my signature to be that long, but after seeing over 150 shows on both sides of the Atlantic, that is how it ended up, I make no apologies for listing then rating the shows I go and see, after all it is a theatre related board. If you don't like it you can either block me or wait a few days for the New Year when I will start my theatre record for 2014.
^^^^
Just goes to prove he's one of those people who knows what he's doing bothers everyone, but since he's allowed to do it, he's going to, and everyone else can just got to hell.
Nice.
And the list just make him look like a bigger douche.
I know that when we built the UK Wicked Tour show this summer the set had to be radically redesigned due to the older theatres it was booked to be in. Everything had to be scaled down and almost 30% lighter then the other tours

My heart is palpatating at the prospect of your 2014 signature!

I think it's best to list the shows you've seen on another site and just link to that instead. It's ridiculous when the signature is longer than the messages one posts.
And clearly, as it has done with this thread, it is disruptive. Hope all the injured from the collapse recover quickly.
My local news is saying 88 injured, 7 seriously.
