Themed Restaurants in NYC

Ok guys...my wife, bro, his wife, my friend and I are heading to the city in mid August to catch a couple shows and enjoy what NYC has to offer. My bro LOVES themed restaurants. Yeah I know they are rip offs and usually the food is medicore at best but my bro doesn't get to NYC often and he wants to go. So I was wondering if ya'll could give me a list and opinions of some of the themed restaurants in the city. Also any other favorite lists for diners, pizza shops and chinesse would be great too. I appreciate any and all help. I want to make sure everyone has a great time. Thanks guys.

You should try askanewyorker.com, it will be a big help for your food questions. Any question about broadway, which shows to see?

John's Pizza on Bleecker Street is a great place for pizza.

I second Jekyll & Hyde Club on Sixth Avenue.

Also, while not a theme, I second John's on 44th Street. The restaurant is in a converted church.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

If you want to stay in the theatre district for pizza, then go to Johns on 44th. But I find the quality of John's has gone down over the years. I prefer Arturo's on Houston and Thompson these days. The pizza is similar style to John's (thin crust, well done), but better, I think. John's is a little dry for me.

New Yorkers, doesn't the WWF professional wrestling store in Times Square near MTV have a restaurant? Did I make that up?

While not exactly a theme restaurant, the Edison Cafe is always interesting. It is not short on New York attitude: the waiters are old farts that don't give a crap whether your order is right or not and only wait around for the Broadway stars and groups of tourists to come in. But they do have good food and you can see some Broadway people there.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Edison Cafe kicks major arse. Their food is really good and I agree about the waiters. They're funny. The one time of the 3 times I ate their in NYC our waiter forgot to bring our drinks out. And then the following morning during breakfast, they forgot our silverware. But it was fun in a New York kinda way I guess. IF that even makes sense.

The WWF resteraunt in Times Square closed. I suggust Ellen's Stardust diner. It's right on 51st and Broadway so it's close to the theater district. It's themed as an old fashioned diner and the waiters/waitresses sing. A lot of fun and more reasonably priced then some of the other themed resteraunts. The food is typical diner food.

There is some space-themed restaurant directly opposite the Winter Garden Theater (where MAMMA MIA is playing). I'm not sure what it's called, but it's on the lower level.

Then there's also Planet Hollywood, The Hard Rock Cafe, some sports-themed restaurant in Times Square, etc.
Itty Bitty Geisha? Toyland? Gypsy Pasadoble? Just a few popular favorites...

The best pizza:
Two Boots on Avenue A. Thin crust and cajun style crust.
Bring tums! Yum.
Mars 2112- Is expensive but it is great for a theme restaurant.
They have divine desserts and you can take a ride to Mars.
It is very dark.
Personally though I avoid theme restaurants as the food is not as good.
Great fare:
West Side Sushi- 48th and 9th (cash only)
Ruby Foo's Trendy and posh with great food
Nobu- An orgasm on a plate (bring your credit cards)
Blue Water Grill- Great food, nice environment
Blue Fin- Good fish great atmosphere close to your hotel.
Best Chinese- Shun Lee near Lincoln Center. Expensive but worth every extra cent. Also head to China Town for Dim sum.

If you want Two Boots pizza Double Down, you don't have to go all the way over to Ave. A. There is one on 7th Ave. near 11th St. in the West Village-it is good, but it's a hot and spicy sauce with a corn meal crust-of course I love all pizza, so I think it's great!

Yes that is a good location but it is not a real restaurant. Slices.
Avenue A is better but a shlep. So walk around the Village it is fun.
Lucky Chengs is close so go there for drinks! And Karaoke. Or check out Lips in the Village. Lips has karaoke on Tuesdays and Fridays and the food is good. It is not expensive and the drag queens are funny. One looks like Cher another like Liza.
Say hi to Peppermint for me. I ADORE HER.

Isn't there another Jekyll & Hyde's downtown, somewhere?
I went there with my family, the food was OK (I'm no gourmet, I couldn't tell) the show was a lot smaller, but I enjoyed it.

We did have a Jekyl and Hyde right here at Sheridan SQuare in the village, but it closed. Not too many theme restaurants around here, but Caliente Cab Co. is fun for a lot of folks, you know, typical Mexican food, known for its frozen drinks, outdoor dining, great people watching, inexpensive, fun decor, etc. Located on the corner of Bleecker and 7th Ave, heart of the village.

Yes the Edison Cafe is in the Edison Hotel. Just be aware that sometimes they include the gratuity on the check no matter what size your party. So look at your check and make sure you aren't double tipping those old farts.

Stardust is on 51st right next to the Wintergarten. Food is good, but it's gotten REALLY expensive over the past two years.

The Edison has really good food and if you pay attention, you can usually catch a few broadway people eating there (it's a favorite of Belle Calaway from Chicago).

Not a themed restaurant, but I'm a big fan of Pigalle on the corner of 48th and 8th. The food is excellent and reasonably priced... and it's also a favorite of several Chicago cast members.
