How will the Tonys hand this situation?
I am assuming that whomever is nominated will be considered featured.
But who will it be?
Will the nominating committee pull another Dean Jones/ Larry Kert in COMPANY switch around? Will the producers have to beg?
Will Jackson have to make a formal request?
What do you think?
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too soon to start this discussion, but it is an intriguing one. Putting a mental pin in this for later in the season.

Whoever opened in the show is who is eligible. So, that would be Cheyenne.
Though, Producers CAN petition the nominating commitee, as Carpinello will be in it next year (if it is still open), which is when Tony voters would see it.
I highly doubt we'll need to worry about it.
I think it's a fine time to discuss, considering Cheyenne's run will come to an end pretty soon.
I don't think Xanadu will be real big at the Tonys to be honest with you. We do have Mel Brooks and Harvey Fierstein shows coming up and the Tony folks love them.
And I think I butchered Harvey's last name? What has gotten into me lately!? I'm misspelling everying!
Didn't butcher it...
True. XANADU may be opening a little early to get any real notice.

It really won't be an issue, since Cheyenne didn't quite get the stellar reviews needed to keep the buzz going until Tony season. Thesbijean has is correct however - unless the Xanadu producers petition the committee, Jackson will be the eligible actor, and in the featured category at that.
Who's going to be nominated for best scenic design/play in 2010?
I'm sure this was discussed as part of Jackson's contract. The Tony committee will be releasing its first set of decisions concerning the season around October/November if I remember correctly so we'll know then.
The question has to be: was Cheyenne considered "consistent with opening night credits"? If he was technically not in the lead role, then he won't be eligible. Of course, the Tony voters can opt to ignore that. That is, also if Cheyenne would actually want his name on the list - knowing how they all feel about James, I doubt they would.
My understanding is that the actor who plays the role on opening night is the actor who is eligible. The only time this has not been the case was with COMPANY in 1971 when Dean Jones left the show several weeks after the opening and Larry Kert replaced him. The producers petitioned, and Kert was placed on the ballot. For the record, he was nominated, but did not win.
I can't see this happening with XANADU. Kert was playing the central character in a very high profile musical that was the hit of the season. Unless Carpinello picks up the kind of buzz that Audra, Harvey and Raul generate when they are in a show, I highly doubt the producers will waste their time. XANADU's shot at acting awards will be with Kerry, Jackie and Mary.
Yeah, but did anyone expect Brooks Ashmankas to get a nomination?
A nomination could be possible.
Well, Jackson may be warm to the eyes, but he is far from an award worthy actor.
How will the Tony's hand this situation?
Tonys.
Will Jackson have to make a formal request?
This has nothing to do with Jackson. It is at the producers' discretion.
Okay, Foster. You're turning in to a Lizzie.
I guess it would be Tonys... It just looks so weird to do it like that. Tonies? Tony's? Tonys? It's odd.
No, I find Lizzie funnier.
Much funnier.
And it's just annoying when anyone else does it.
Especially Foster, who I usually support.
*blush*
Cheyenne will be in XANADU till atleast the end of Septemeber.
From what he said in the interview on Playbill, I believe.
I think it's too early to tell, but I'd love for Cheyenne get a nomination seeing as how he was snubbed for All Shook Up.
Well, whether he actually gets a nomination or not, I am sure that both Jackson and Carpinello care about which one of them is even considered for the nod so depending on what was worked out in each of their contracts the producers will definitely petition one or the other to be considered for a nomination. This is not about them getting the nod but about who will be considered at all for it.
Very true, Ray.
Carpinello will be considered to get the nod IMO...but I doubt he'll even get nominated.
It's not a very showy part...just my opinion
If the 2007-2008 season ultimately turns out to be extremely lacking for leading men in musicals, then maybe the leading man from Xanadu -- either Carpinello or Jackson -- may get a Tony nomination. But it's really too early to tell. Besides, even if Jackson gets the nod, will anyone even remember him given that voting doesn't occur until May by which point he would be long gone from the show? We shall see...
does anyone else think jackson has a REALLY big forehead?
