FWIW, the For Your Consideration score is EASILY found online. I repeat: E-A-S-I-L-Y. I was simply letting someone know who wanted the End Credits music know it’s out there and EASILY found with some effort. If you don’t put in the work, you ain’t gunner go far in life. Seriously. You guys truly need to learn to try harder and not just settle for the obvious shortcut, in other words, the regular release of the score.
Yes it’s online. I found it in zero point 5 seconds. It’s 34 tracks the last one being the End Titles.

How come the movie can’t use the ruby slippers, but can borrow so much else from the 1939 movie?

… is it legal to listen to that? Are the creatives compensated? Should we care?

I was simply providing information to those who do. If it bothers you that much don’t comment.
Should we care if the creatives are compensated, I meant. You’re providing information to those that don’t.

This is sort of a weird area in which concepts that originate from Baum’s novel are fair game to use even if they overlap with the 1939 movie, but things created specifically for the 1939 movie, like the ruby slippers, are not.
As far as I recall, the Wicked movie doesn’t use anything created specifically from the 1939 movie. It has some music allusions and some recreations of shots or moments, but doesn’t lift designs etc

These FYC things are given out free to voting members of various guilds or awards bodies, so the creatives have already been compensated. But these aren’t meant to be distributed publicly.
You girls need to stop clutching your pearls. I provided a track listing for those who may be interested in what was included. It's not as if I provided a link for everyone to download the damn thing. CTFO.
Compensated on the condition that the freebies are not widely distributed, though? A 0.5 google search is not what they agrreed to, I’m guessing.
Thanks, I understand now about the legalities regarding the 39 movie… although it seems to me they did downright copy in some areas. The title graphics, the swirly roads set, the Emerald City uniforms etc. In his cameo, Stephen Schwartz was dressed just like Frank Morgan as the gatekeeper. The beauty salon is another thing, probably more too. Anyway, just curious. None of those I mentioned are as iconic as the ruby slippers, I suppose.

Thank you for sharing this. Just being a fan of the film and not involved in the industry I was not aware that this was out there to find ... and you were right, it was quite easy to find once I knew to look for it. LOL

I'm way late to this but I finally saw it and I was surprised that I felt like Ariana Grande played her role more Broadway style than Cynthia Erivo did. It also felt like they did more sound editing on Erivo's numbers which disappointed me.

The studio itself put it on a publicly available website. This isn't some dark web thing or illegally uploaded or hidden behind a password on a secret site. I don't know what compensation agreement is in place, but the studio who owns the score made it available to the public and not only a select group.
I was looking forward to the end titles' music when I saw it. (I usually sit through them at movies) Sat through about a minute and a half of these and had to get up from my comfy reclining chair before I got too comfy and dozed off! I was hoping they would be a bit "perkier". Just listened to them and they pick up for about a minute around the 3 minute mark for a minute. They music and orchestrations are nice but I probably won't listen to them again. JMO

"This is going to flop hard.
It’ll have a nice first week, but most of the reviewswill be tepid (save for the two leads’ performances) and it will be overshadowed by MOANA 2 come Turkey Day."

A day after seeing it I'm still thinking about Cynthia Erivo's delivery of "well if that's love, it comes at much too high a cost!" - she's giving a performance that people will be talking about for years, I'm sure.
I've never actually seen Wicked on stage, and I was only familiar with a few of the songs from high school band, so I went in fairly cold. The movie definitely feels like the first part of something, and because of that Elphelba feels like the only character who had a complete arc, which is helped a lot by Erivo's performance. She has great chemistry with Ariana Grande, who is a diva in the best way. Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, and Ethan Slater are all very charming, too. Jon M. Chu brought a lot of imagination to the production design and dance, though especially early on some of the lyrics felt a little muddled by the sound design (maybe an issue with my theater?).
I don't think it's quite on the level of In the Heights but it's still a very good movie.

Cynthia and Ariana's chemistry is more compelling than Ari's overall performance in the film as Glinda.
When the two of them are together in this it's really magical.
When Ari's with other characters it feels sometimes one note and definitely not as funny as the character has been onstage.
I think Ari's is just ultimately an uneven performance. Not bad per say, just inconsistent. Which I think happens if you're not used to acting that much and are more just a singer. You bring your all in certain takes or on certain days, and some days you feel out of your element.
You can tell "Popular" and "Defying Gravity" for example she was really there and in it and connected cause she knew those sequences were important and poured her heart there.
But then a dialogue scene at Shiz happens with her and you're like "eh"
It's kinda a trend you can trace in a lot of singer to movie performances from the past.
I think Ariana was channeling Kristin, much more than Cynthia was channeling Idina. Cynthia made the role her own - Ariana didn’t. Which I don’t necessarily mean as a criticism.
P.S. Ariana is billed as “Ariana Grande-Butera”… does anybody ever actually call her that?

Ariana Grande Is Credited in ‘Wicked’ as ‘Ariana Grande-Butera’ Because ‘That Was My Name When I Went to See the Show’ at 10 Years Old
“I just feel like this experience was such a homecoming for me. I feel like I came home to myself in a lot of ways, through what I learned from Glinda, from Elphaba,” Grande explained, glancing at Erivo, who was seated next to her. “And, you know, that was my name when I went to see the show when I was 10 years old. And it felt like a really lovely way of honoring that. It felt really full circle, and it just felt like something I wanted to do.”
How nice!
Thanks, Quibbler.
For a moment I thought she’d gotten married and done that thing where female celebrities add on their husband’s name for whatever reason. Phew.

Confirmation that you do live under a rock….as I suspected.
Sorry, Carlos… I’d really love to keep up with the love-lives of celebrities, but there are more pressing issues going on in the world right now.
Wicked just received 4 Golden Globe nominations in the following categories:
Best Motion Picture-Comedy/Musical
Best Actress in a Motion Picture-Comedy/Musical (Cynthia Erivo)
Best Supporting Actress in any Motion Picture (Ariana Grande)
Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award
If Jon M. Chu couldn't crack their Best Director lineup, it's looking even stronger that he won't crack the Oscar lineup.

Honestly this is how I felt about Ariana as well. Her best moments were because of her connection with Cynthia and those were truly beautiful. On the whole though I didn't really see the "Oscar" performance so many are claiming to be experiencing from her.
