This isn't a song and I'm not sure of the actor's name.
but in the video recording of Into The Woods the Character Jack delivers one line with this weird upward inflection in his voice.
I believe the line is
"Let's go Milky White, there ^are^ spirits here."
It just sounds weird.

in wicked... i dont' like how they pronounce dr. dillamond (this is more in the dialogue then singing)... they pronounce it dillamind (like in and out, not mind)... i always thought it should dillamond... (like off and ON)....
I hate how in The First Noel "looked" has to be two syllables to fit the music.
POTO recording
Sarah Brightman says "The phantom of the operer is there" right before All I Ask of You.
I some sondheim lyrics that need to be pronounced a certain way inorder to work... one that comes to mind: "in our cozy retreat kept all neat and tidy/ We'll have chums over every friday"

Amy Spanger's inability to properly pronouce "can't" in the song "Why Can't You Behave" on the KISS ME KATE revival recording.

This is all quite interesting to me, as I'm fascinated with accents, speech pathology and linguistics... I'll have to listen to my OBC recordings a little more closely!

A lot of it has to do with lyric writers who dont know how to write for the human voice.
Opera librettists are usually much more in tune to that thing and you'll see better text setting for those reasons.
Vowel modification is just something singers have to do in order to get the sound out and still remain healthy, remember these singers are usually doing 8 shows a week, or at least 6, so anything to make it easier.
Conversely, opera singers don't often have to perform the same role week after week. An opera singer who has his/her druthers and performs often will often peform a heavy role (like Verdi or Wanger) and then lighter roles (Mozart) in between, it keeps your technique fresh and keeps your voice healthy.
Musical theater singers dont often get that luxury, so they need all the help they can get.
Cut em some slack guys.
I just saw Jennifer Holliday's pre-Oscar performance yesterday, and apparently Hugh, and Huey, and Jew are going to love May. Is this some kind of blind item?

Charlotte's "Music and the Mirror" has that horrible "threeeeeeeeewwwww" for "through." Haha. Updated On: 2/26/07 at 08:44 PM
The word Cane in The Producers
I wana be a producer
sport a top hate and ca-ya-ane
"I just saw Jennifer Holliday's pre-Oscar performance yesterday, and apparently Hugh, and Huey, and Jew are going to love May."
This made me snort a little orange juice out of my nose.
Jennifer Hudson pronounces "and" like "ahnd" and it makes me giggle. I think it's really cute.
Four words:
Antonio Banderas in Evita
all those "double o" words
book -byoookuh
through -threuuuu
you- yuuuuh
god he's pronunciations of them make me laugh
Another Sunset unusual pronunciations.
"We taught the world new ways to dreeeeeeeeAAAAAAAAAAM"
Two of my all-time favorite unusual pronunciations are on the OBC of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas in the names of the whores - Eloise (E-loyze) and Beatrice (Bee-A-trice).
Corn-eee-uu-copia
-Follies, though I guess with the placement it's kind of unavoidable.
I always hate when actors/actresses/singers say/sing "chew" instead of "-t you".
Example.
RENT - "Withouchew. The grass.."
The Scarlet Pimpernel - "When I Look atchu..."
Let's not forget the "op'ra' in POTO.
Oh, my favorite POTO moment was Sarah Brightman singing Music Of The Night at a televised ALW celebration and singing, "Let your soul take you where you long to BAAAAAAAAAA!"
Sheep everywhere rejoiced.
It's very hard to sing dipthongs (like tje word I) since theyre combinations of two sounds. I was trained to hold the first part and then at the end right before you cut off ad the second part.
Example:
The wizard and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
The pronunciation of "don Juan" as "dawn Jew-ahn" in LES MIZ.
You talk of battles to be won
And here he comes like don Juan

"I wana be a producer

It's stylized. Like vaudeville. Brooks talks about it in THE PRODUCERS book.

He filled my days with endLESS wonder.
Instead of pronouncing like ENDliss.
