They have Clayton Davis doing the Tony predictions at Variety??? I get that he's their chief awards editor, but...this is really not his expertise? They flew him here for Tony press for a week where, per his socials, he saw Ragtime, Lost Boys, Salesman, and The Jellicle Ball. That's liekly all he's seen this season. He seems to just be basing some predictions off of the thoughts of a few Tony voters he knows which is how we get predictions like Danny Burstein winning featured actor for Marjorie Prime (for which he was astonishing, but based on how the nominations, precursor wins, and industry sentiment has shaken out...its prob Ehrenreich vs. Abbott vs. Santiago-Hudson for that one). Kind of crazy that one of the top entertainment industry publications isn't recruiting one of their New York based theater writers for this type of piece, but I guess thats the landscape we are in right now.
