I have tickets to a showing tomorrow and suspect that it will start more or less on time as opposed to having ~20 minutes of ads and previews beforehand like a normal movie but wanted to check to confirm. I was considering trying to see another movie beforehand but not sure I’ll have enough time."
I guess it depends on the theater. We saw it at Union Square in NYC and it started a full half hour after the announced time. The 2:30 show started at 3 pm.
Good news they have added a couple of days so now some theaters are showing this until Wednesday. I’ll have to go again hopefully. I guess the approx 995 x I saw it on stage (usher) wasn’t quite enough)..felt like home
It's such a shame this couldn't get a distributor other than Fathom to release this. The few showtimes Fathom does are also excluded from all of the subscription programs a lot of people buy tickets through now, because they're essentially buying out the screen for that time.

I just saw this today-- It was really really great
Like I thought the cast was just flawless
I was so glad to finally see it, though I do wish there were a proper intermission
Also there were like eight people in the theater because literally nobody in this area likes musical theatre

I saw the proshot today, theater was almost full and audience was very engaged which was nice to see.
The film captures the show beautifully. Bareilles has a great voice of course, but she's also an excellent actress. Every bit the equal of Jessie Mueller, who I saw live.
The entire cast is top notch, but Christopher Fitzgerald got the most laughs in the movie just as he did in the show. And Dakin Matthews proves once again that he's Broadway's secret weapon- his hat tip at the end always gets me

Saw this today and loved it. So well done. My showing was apparently sold out according to the seat map but the theater wasn't full, maybe due to the storm passing through. The audience was very engaged though. I'll be purchasing this as well.

''Will this be eligible for Oscar noms?''
Most likely not. This question came up a couple years ago, with the filmed stage version of ''Hamilton.'' The Academy rules committee decided it wasn't Oscar-eligible. However, ''Hamilton'' was eligible for other awards that didn't have the same rules: like the Golden Globes, SAGs and the Emmys. ''Waitress'' might be able to compete there, too.

I have no idea if Kelly can act, but she would sing the heck out of the Waitress score and has that southern charm and likability that would probably make her a perfect Jenna!

Sara said on Instagram that it's extended its run. Looks like theaters near me now have showtimes through Friday.
I saw this yesterday at a fairly well-sold afternoon showing. Having seen Waitress on Broadway multiple times, including with Sara as Jenna, this is a really great pro-shot of the show. It has captured the show perfectly. This is probably the best version of the cast too. I agree that Dakin Matthews is truly wonderful as Joe, and I’m glad he came back to do the film (I believe he was in To Kill a Mockingbird at the time).
I imagine this won’t be eligible for Emmy Awards since it’s playing in movie theatres. I believe there is a rule against filmed live performances being eligible at the Oscars. So this might be living in a grey area for awards consideration.

And today it was reported that Waitress was in the top 10 of movies seen this past weekend. That’s pretty impressive.

There isn't. Or at least there wasn't for Hamilton. They simply declared it ineligible, citing a rule that gives them the power to determine eligibility. But they "justified" the decision by citing a rule that was specifically made up for the pandemic: Films must be made available to members on an Academy-specific site within 60 days of being streamed. But that rule didn't exist until well after Hamilton streamed.
It’s available right now to purchase on Vudu, so I assume it’s on all other streaming platforms, as well.
