Looks like it's in the works! I think Lauper could totally nail this one.

I'd rather see a live version of Work Hard or Die Tryin', Girl.

Came here to say basically this.
I'm already dreamcasting this with Carmen Cusack.
I'll third that. That's literally the first and only thing that popped into my mind. Damn, I wish that Bob's Burgers was still on Netflix.
Only if Tina Belcher can reprise her role as Katharine Parker.
Dear God. Is it impossible to just write an original musical?
It should be Carly Simon, but whatever. Love the movie, and I could see this working well as a musical.
What does it matter if it's adapted or original if it's good?
I don't understand what's the resistance we have towards musicals adapted from movies/books. Especially a movie like this, which is all but forgotten by a sizeable population. If it is a good story which can be adapted to stage, we should be open to the adaption. I think Working Girl musical can be really successful.
Surprised that nobody's thrown out a dreamcast of the three leads yet

Yeah, like that Oklahoma! or Carousel.

psstt... I did with Carmen Cusack. Won't mind seeing Ashford getting together with Cyndi again either.
Oops, my mistake!
I could see Carmen as a Katharine, easily. Not so much a Tess.
I'll bite...Laura Benanti in the Sigourney Weaver part? And oh heck, how about Andy Karl in the Harrison Ford role, if he's out of Groundhog Day by then?
I also think Annaleigh Ashford would be very good in the lead.
Annaleigh Ashford would be great as the Joan Cusack role.
I don't mind the adapting of material, just wish they'd change the names a little instead of just tacking on "the musical" to everything. Can you imagine if we'd had Pygmalion: The Musical.

"
But how much awareness would there be if Groundhog Day the Musicalt were re-titled as DEJA VU?
But I think it's silly to think that people are spending $200 a ticket to see a show because they recognize the title? If it's good, the word will spread. I just think a show loses some credibility with audiences when it's "The Musical."
Look I love a musical based on a good book or movie, but so far I can't think of one upcoming original musical. We've got SpongeBob and Working Girl and Mean Girls and Frozen, but no new original musicals?
Well, you're listing out shows which span multiple seasons. Even this show has no dates. So I'm going to throw a very simple answer - Lempicka. Completely original musical. That was the first one that popped into my head.

But this is why Charlie and the chocolate factory sits in the million dollar club every week ,despite poor reviews and word of mouth : its title.
