Why are you behaving as though this is the only show with$400+ tickets?
Last week the following shows all had tickets priced at $400+:
- HAMILTON
- OTHER DESERT CITIES
- OH MARY
- JUST IN TIME
- ROCKY HORROR
- MINCEMEAT
- A FEW GOOD MEN
Broadway is not a charity. It does not owe anyone the opportunity to get cheap seats in the best part of the orchestra for what might be the most hotly anticipated new musical in years. There are other price points out there, there are two rows of rush seats in the orchestra, there’s the $79 ticket initiative"
Multiple things can be true at the same time. It is currently not the most expensive ticket on Broadway. The average ticket price does not appear to beout of line with the rest of the industry.
It is also true there was a $150 minimum spend to get a ticket. Some have claimed there were a couple performances that started at $99, I did not see any as I looked for tickets at the start of the presale. $150 minimum spend from the day tickets went on sale. That was not the case with a single show on your list. That wasn't the case with Hamilton. It wasn't even the case for Other Desert Cities.
I hasten to add this theatre is hundreds and hundreds of seats larger than any other show on that list. $150 for the last row of the theatre. The comp in the Lyceum is spending $150 to sit inside the Walgreens across the street. A bad seat is a bad seat. The Lunt Fontanne has a decent number of bad seats. Does it make sense, or is it just,to sell a bad seat at what is essentially premium pricing? What premium experience can they offer in that case?
The $79 ticket initiative is also unclear. It did not appear they were holding any tickets back on the seat maps I saw. Are there seats saved for $79? How many per performance? Without any actual information around the program, the $79 price band is a public-relations-mirage. I also again think it's ridiculous you have to enter a lottery to spend the cost of what is, in any other case, a full price ticket. (I feel differently about Mince, they have regular affordable options along with that lottery.) But that's me."
Check the weekday shows for $99.
It looks like solid sales out of the gate at all pricepoints. If you want the $99, might want to get them. They will be first to go, I 'd wager. I was just looking at some $99 for March 31. There were exactly 24 seats at that price open when I first looked. Now, about 2 hours later, there is 10 left at that price. Guessing some scalpers are eating up the cheaper ones.
