thaks for the updates! And you will be shooting on the brooklyn bridge? Cool! I love it! Also no "spike lee shotting on the street" aspect of rent because you can't film in the city. That was cheesy! ALl these things are happening to our city! I heard today that poeple can no longer takes photographs on the subways.

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

Thanks for putting things in perspective, Anthony. Chaos dragon, on an earlier thread Anthony explained that his user name comes from a joke about what he'd call himself if he were a Spice Girl.

ETA: Well, apparently the Treasure Island mess has been sorted out. The article below is a fascinating read about the whole thing, from a paper which I hope is a little more reliable than the Examiner:

yep Chloe luckily the Chron is more reliable than the Examiner...Matier and Ross are good guys...
sorry I didn't check this before posting the new thread...my bad

No problem. I debated about whether to start a new thread or not myself. No easy answer, as more people are likely to see something posted as a new topic than one added onto a long thread.

This actually works since the film is set nearly two decades in the past, when Spike Lee was indeed shooting down the street for "Do the Right Thing."

Thanks for the article link Chloe. Fascinating read. I'm glad they've cleared up (or are in the process of clearing up) the whole Treasure Island thing. It's understandable that the movie cant be fully shot in New York and at least they arent trying to film it in LA and pass it off as New York what with the palm trees and beverly hills type architecture. XD Movie-makers usually do a good job of hiding the fact that the movie has been filmed all over the place instead of in one city like the storyline says. Anyways, just finished reading about Idina's accident. Do you suppose filming will be delayed for a while? A cracked rib is pretty painful and someone certainly couldnt be expected to sing and dance with one. Anyone know whats going on with that?

I agree...I believe they are supposed to be recording the soundtrack and all of that first (so for the next few weeks) before they start the filming. My guess would be that they just take it easy on her stuff and focus on the non-Maureen songs first (slowly easing more work onto her as her ribs heal). Same general thing for filming (which is supposed to start in March...?).

I have no actual clue, but that's my guess.

"as long as you still have the glasses and the scarf im happy. :)"

And if he doesn't, then the film's an abomination? :)

I'm not buying the arguments that it sacrifices that much quality if "trademark" costumes from the stage production aren't used.

One thing it will lose if the costumes aren't uniquely designed for the adaptation is a shot at recognition by the Academy, which will ultimately have some say in whether this film is remembered as a failure or a success.

I agree with EvelynNesbit1906 on that. I dont think the movie will be affected by the fact that the trademarks from the show arent used. In the long run I don't think costume will play as much of a part as it did in Lord of the Rings or another movie that needs those costumes to make the movie believable and realistic since RENT is set in the 1990s and the style hasnt changed so much since then. I do hope that the costumes remain loyal to the plotline in the sense that they fit each character indivudually.
As for Maureen, I thought the fimling was set to start this week with Idina and Taye Diggs. I hope they work something out because Idina is great as Maureen though I never figured they would do something like re-cast the role. Her injury isnt that serious by the sound of it though I could be wrong.

Sorry for the double post, computer got screwed up, thought the first message didnt post, re typed it, reposted etc etc. Very long story. :-p Anyways, maybe I just got a false piece of information then. Stuff you hear on boards etc can be unreliable sometimes. Well in any case I did read something about Idina and Taye starting work this week but that's probably been changed a bit due to circumstances. She looked fine though in the pics from her curtain call on Wicked so I'm not too worried about it. She will probably be fine in a week or two.

Yeah broken/cracked ribs hurt like HELL. I cracked one once and i literally couldnt move without immense pain. the worst thing is that you cant really do anything to help ease the pain except wear a brace around your abdomen/chest area. All you can really do is prop yourself up on pillows and wait. I'm sure the producers of RENT will give her some time off to recuperate for filming/recording.

BTW, whats a short rib?

...a very tasty dinner item :) What the heck, eat 'em when you can...haha!

Guess I should introduce myself. Name's Adam. I'm a spud (from Idaho), 20, and generally bored outta my gourd except for puppetry, RENT, writing musical scores, and knocking around the one-horse capital with my friends :)

but yeah. Short ribs. Tasty :) yum. haha!

Hey Anthony!

I am very excited about the Rent movie, and thanks for all the updates.

Just wondering, the set for the stage musical of Rent was pretty much based around the tables in the center. How are the sets being changed for the movie musical? I imagine they are much more detailed, but is the idea of the tables being kept? Updated On: 1/10/05 at 10:54 AM

Dreamcatcher, as Anthony Rapp just posted, rehearsals and recording are what's happening for the Rent movie cast at the moment. The actual shoot starts in March, as Bellalunatic noted.
