Hey Anthony, thanks for posting when you can. Glad you're with us on the boards.
My name is brad anyways.... Just have a question or two if you have time.

1. Can you tell us how the sound of the updated versions of the rent music is. Is it faster, slower, more rock, less rock..?

2. Have the costumes changed at all?

sorry if this was asked before, I'm just a curious guy and I love rent.

...

Look, I don't want to sound nasty, but may I request that people consider not posting their entire life stories? I won't name names, but some people type out a ridiculous amount about themselves and gush unnecessarily. Please, don't chew up the bandwith with tons of sugary compliments and details about yourself. We have other places for doing that (though many of said offenders don't participate in any thread but this one because it has a famous actor who reads it). Just something to think about. Yah, thank you so much for actually taking the time to respond to all the questions! And, like somebody else said, I love coming home from school to read all these posts.

Also, when you are recording group songs, is everybody in one room with one mike singing it or does each individual sing their part and then the technicians combine them later on?
Thanks!

so did we all hear about the apparent hullabaloo over Treasure Island the other day?

Dear Anthony,

Hope you can answer these questions. If the show doesn't end up shooting in San Fran will you move to LA or do the whole shoot in NYC? Also, I read in the script a description of the character April as being a real rocker chick with red hair. This bugged me since Mimi is supposed to physically remind Roger of April, and Rosario ain't a rocker chick type and obviously ain't a redhead. Can you comment?

Thanks for taking the time to post.

"Also, I read in the script a description of the character April as being a real rocker chick with red hair. This bugged me since Mimi is supposed to physically remind Roger of April, and Rosario ain't a rocker chick type and obviously ain't a redhead."

Just to interject, if you don't mind, I don't see a problem with April being a rocker chick. Roger DID say that Mimi reminded him of April only when she smiled. I think that he's so hung up on what happened to April at the beginning of RENT, that he'd see... almost any new girl to resemble April in some way. He's that sort of lovable angstball. Oh! Since I'm joining the bandwagon here--Thank you SO much for posting to us, Anthony. I enjoyed reading through everything so that I'd have no danger of repeating a question. Heh. I'm Lari(ssa). I'm nearly 18 years old, from South Jersey. ... For some reason, South Jersians stress that they're from South Jersey, just to distance ourselves from North Jersey.

Er... I digress.

Anyway, I hope the Treasure Island 'mishap' doesn't interfere with the quality of the sets or film as a whole. Any information about that would be appreciated. :) Hope you're having a decent weekend, Anthony!

Sorry if I missed something but what is this whole delima with Treasure Island and the filming of the movie? If someone could explain this to me it would be much appreciated.

These sentences from The San Francisco Examiner sum it up:

>>
Barring a last-minute breakthrough, Hollywood director Chris Columbus and his "Rent" production crew may soon be saying farewell to Treasure Island, according to the island's director and film industry workers.

Treasure Island Development Agency Director Tony Hall said Thursday his agency and Columbus' movie production company had been unable to agree to terms of a lease. He said "Rent" had not met basic tenant requirements such as a security deposit, proof of insurance and financial statements.

Hi All --

I really can't comment at length about the Treasure Island brouhaha, but suffice it to say that don't believe everything you read. It's true there are problems getting worked out, but the details expressed in that article are not all true. The San Francisco Examiner is pretty much the NY Post of this city, and displays about the same amount of journalistic integrity and propensity for airing controversy just for the sake of controversy.

If we have to move out of Treasure Island, though, we will still film the majority of the movie in the Bay Area.

As much as Chris and the producers tried to find a way to do more filming in NYC, the truth is that you cannot shoot on the streets of NYC after dark and play music while doing so: there is a law that prevents productions from doing that, because of all the residents' complaints over the years from music videos doing night shoots in their neighborhoods. That fact alone makes it impossible to shoot most of Rent in NYC, sadly. There will still be some shooting in the city (including on the Brooklyn Bridge at one point), but the bulk will have to be done elsewhere.

But Chris and our cinematographer have vowed to challenge anyone to know from watching the film that it wasn't *all* shot in NYC. Hopefully they'll win that challenge. Questions about filming location and script detail

As for other questions:

"1. Can you tell us how the sound of the updated versions of the rent music is. Is it faster, slower, more rock, less rock..?"

I've only heard rough mixes of some of the songs' basic tracks at this point, so I can't say for certain how they will all sound in their final versions, but overall I can say that the sonic experience is much fuller than on the OBC. And the drums alone on "Rent" kick some serious *ass.* But the tempi are pretty much the same, or different only by degrees. There are slight changes in a couple of the vocal arrangements, and there will be a lot more voices on some of the songs, including "Rent." Overall, I think it will sound amazing, especially in a surround sound theatre. I get chills thinking about Jonathan's beautiful cacophony washing over you as you sit there with your popcorn... "Have the costumes changed at all?"

They will definitely change, especially for me, since I will actually get to change my clothes, since this is a film that happens over time. The costume design is all still getting figured out, and will continue to get figured out up until the time we're shooting. Oh, and about our costume designer, I was talking to her the other day, and found out she also designed Return of the Jedi! How cool is *that*?

"Any update on the release date of the movie?"

That won't all be finalized for some time yet, but it will probably not be out until mid-December at the earliest. When we did A Beautiful Mind, we shot through the middle of June, and the film was released on the 19th of December, so I would imagine our release schedule would be something similar, giving them plenty of time to cut the film together and do whatever post-production fixes that might need to happen.

Jesse gets into town today. I'm very excited to see him. It's been a while, although we've talked on the phone quite a bit. He's so happy to be doing the movie...

Talk to you all soon --

Anthony

considering idina menzels recent accident, do you figure anything will be delayed?

ya, i was just gonna bring this up. I dont think the injury was very serious, but im hoping nothing is delayed. Maybe Anthony can update us on her condition when he sees her again...

as to other questions i have...
1) It may be too early to ask, but does anyone have any ideas for marketing. Will there be lots of TV spots, appearances of shows, posters, etc?
2) totally random, but where did you get your user name from? just thought i would ask, seeing as its quite unique

anyways, thats just my 2-cents. been reading the board for a while, but never posted. Thanks for talkin to us Anthony!
