Exactly. What everyone else has said. Everything has to be taken with a grain of salt I guess. Word of mouth is always a good way and can be influential or not. It also depends on the person's tastes and preferences I suppose. iheartmark you just said what I meant to say. Cool! And it's not necessarily that they don't get that they don't like it, but sometimes that's a factor. I think it's just hard to predict the final outcome, but all we can do is hope for the best. :)

Definitly agree with you on that Iheartmark! The only friends who will go with me are people who are already really into musical theatre but thats fine with me. But thats fine with me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Even my friends that aren't in musical theater are TOTALLY looking forward to it. I have one friend who came to see Little Shop with me cuz her mom likes the show or something, and then she saw Anthony's name when I was reading the RENT Bible and started freaking out and jumping around and screaming about how we have to see it a million times. I was like "i couldn't have said it better myself" Wow I'm excited lol
"Kali, why is Roger on a cliff?"
"Because the cliff is love, Rachel."
"Oh."
That's funny iheartmark. I'm not even going to get into the story of my seeing LSOH when it was here. Nope, I'll just save myself the slight embarassment. Well it wasn't embarassing, it's stupid. Okay anyway.

I'll definitely drag my friends to see it, whether they want to or not. We go to the movies all the time - good movies and bad ones - just because there really is nothing better for us to do around here. Plus, my excitement about it (although I try to keep it contained) is already starting to rub off on some of them. So, I'm pretty sure that they will all go see RENT...even if I am making them. My hope is that those of my friends not particulary interested in the movie will leave it a little more cultured or something at least. Let it open their eyes a little.
Yeah Blue J. That'll be interesting to dress in drag. Fits. Sorry the dressing in drag reminded me of TLK. Sorry. It is nice to try something new after awhile and this film won't be like other films coming out, which is nice.

Racetrack- my LSOH experience was embarrassing but I do love reliving it, cuz it was still great to meet Anthony...*spaces out* Anyway I'm pathetically tired at *checks clock* ten to ten, so I'm going to bed. Peace, rentheads! (officially my favorite sign-off ever) ttyl.

I don't want to jinx anything yet but I wonder if it will make a big hit at the awards shows next year. I mean musicals have been known to do it before. (Moulin Rouge for example). It is going to be so radically different from most of the other Christmas time releases I think that I'll be surprised if it doesnt get some nominations...

Mine wasn't embarassing I guess. I just felt stupid two days later because I didn't realize a certain thing and then it all clicked and everything went down hill from there.
I say awards prove nothing about the quality of a film or who should have won. I won't use my dad's common example, but still I just think awards don't necessarily prove anything. Not that I wouldn't want Rent to win(not jinxing of course) because I do. I'm just saying.

No I agree with you race, that awards do not show the quality of the film in the least. In alot of cases the award wont go for the best movie, but for the movie that was most accepted by audiences or that did the best at the box offices. I've always said that I've never preffered those movies that were made specifically to impress the awards panels and the initial story line was lost in that dream of winning an oscar but it would be nice to see RENT get the recognicion I'm sure it deserves. I would be very mad if they didn't recieve that recognicion just because it has some darker, more contreversial themes.

I agree award shows don't prove anything when it comes to what is a good film or not. But I would love to see Rent up for a few!
I think that quite a few people will actually go see this movie when it comes out, maybe not in blockbuster numbers but I definetly think that people will be intreasted in seeing it. I know because of me talking about the movie so much, my friends are going to go see it. Thats how I got them to go see the show the last time we went to NYC I talked their ears off about how amazing it was! It's also somewhat of a big budget movie There is probably going to be a lot of promotion for it that will probably get a lot of people to come. The RENTHEADS alone could make this movie a hit! who needs other people!
haha yeah, just get all the RENTheads together and who needs other people? We could make this bigger then the Lord of the Rings or Star Wars! (maybe...:-P)

You know how serious like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings fans dress up like their favorite characters and go see the movie at its first showing at like midnight on the day it opens?
Yeah...I totally see RENTheads in the Mark scarf and the plaid pants doing the same thing. Updated On: 3/14/05 at 01:27 AM
I agree. Sadly I think I'll have to say goodnight to everyone because I have to get up really early for school tomorrow. Ugh! Groan. Three more weeks! Night everyone
Have fun filming tomorrow! Keep warm.

I never thought of that Dressing up would be amazing!! I have a pair of plaid pants that I have never worn and I may have to dig them out for the opening of this movie!! haha
Kids, I'm beggin ya. I will MAKE you a thread on the Off-Topic board for conversation inspired by the Welcome, Anthony Rapp! board. It would be a pleasure. But please...
"I am special, I am special! Please, God, please, don't let me be normal!" ---Louisa, The Fantasticks
Okay, so no plaid pants in the movie...but there is the Santa coat and the Mark scarf...I think I can deal... *sigh* But oooo! A 'Making of...' documentary would be way cool...
And who else is pondering dressing up for the movie now?
I am definately going to. I'm going to have to buy some new knitting needles for the scarf though.
I'm trying to direct back on topic...erm...how about a question...erm... Having worked with these people before, did you keep in close contact with them after you left? And what advice would you give to someone with aspirations of a carreer on Broadway?

thanks so much for the updates, anthony. i'm so excited about the progress. i'm new to the site and am from the bay area (san jose, to be exact) and yesterday, my theater group closed our run of "aida". i totally didn't know/remember that you were filming in sf, or else we so would have wanted you all to come see it, especially adam. except you were/are(?) in new york. we were talking backstage that it would be cool if someone involved in "aida" were to come and see the show because last summer, when we did "miss saigon," the woman who was playing kim in the tour at the time came to see us. anyway, i know this is such a total random post and not related to "rent," so i apologize to the other posters who dislike posters who digress.
I'm a lurker of this thread but I've decided to join in on the Anthony love! I love Anthony Rapp!
I'm so excited about the filming. I'll be desperately seeking the set all week! So freakin' excited! I have my monstrous upstate NY coat to keep my warm and poptarts to keep me full while I endlessly watch the magic that is Rent!

Lael don't tear out your hair. We'll stop...okay I'll. Stop. Sorry everyone!

I don't know if this has been answered but will the film open wide on Nov. 11 or in limited release? If it's in limited release I'm totally road tripping to find it!
Just wondering.
By the way am I the only excited about getting to MOO in a movie theater? lol
