Wow this is really crazy. It is just starting to hit me that this is no longer some elusive idea planned for years into the future...RENT is really happening! Every time I see pix and read articles w/ release dates (btw: http://www.playbill.com/news/article/91734.html if anyone hasn't seen it yet) it really becomes more and more real. This is insane. Wow, okay now I'm really excited. I'm going to start a countdown...239 Days. ahhhhhh!!! okay, enough of my random thoughts for now :)
Didn't have the time to read the entire thread (man, it's HUGE), but just wanted to share in the thrill that this movie is finally being made. Seeing the pictures got me all hyped up, especially since so many of the original Cast members are involved in this thing.
Well, not much more to say... left speechless by the whole thing (and I guess everything has been said by the rest of you already, so...)
Have a blast making the rest of the movie, Anthony, and for everyone out here all the best from the Netherlands.
hey anthony, i have two questions... 1. where are you guys filming on friday afternoon? (if you are filming at all) i have a 1/2 a day of school and would LOVE to come watch you film!!!! 2. i dont know if you are allowed to answer this, but are the scarsdale references that were in the play going to be in the movie? haha it makes me feel special...even if it isnt in the most positive connotations! thank you thank you thank you!!!!
all this info on the film is overwhelming for a girl who hasn't been online in a few days! THis is so exctiting and as someone mentioned, i think it would be awesome if in the special dvd there would be a mark cohen film like in the show. Also while i am upset over the roger pants, i will have to deal. tear! at least the scarf made it in!
"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell

Um, Anthony? My friend and I read somewhere that you smoked? We found this hard to believe about you. We thought you were a health nut, with the not eating meat and the yoga and such. I know rumors are bad, but we were just wondering. Could you clear this up for us? Thanks. -Bethy and Lael

6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys
*headdesk* Is there anything people won't sell on e-bay...*sigh* I can understand...but I mean really...and about the 1980's thing, from what I understand it was meant to be set in the eighties in the first place, and that this is set aroung '85 but don't quote me on that.
"A guy gave a girl 12 roses, eleven real one fake, he said, when the last rose dies I'll stop loving you..."
Anthony has already answered the documentary question (and I have even reposted his answer once already), and indeed, people have been taking photos and videos since the cast started rehearsing.
I know this thread has gotten pretty long, but Anthony's posts have also been compiled on the site below. forget regret
Urgh... I'm extremely disappointed about the RogerPants. I too have an attachment to them and think they should be allowed in at least one scene... Either way, I'm wearing RogerPants or MimiPants to the premiere... teehee...
My friend Tony is outraged about the whole 1980's dealie but I don't really mind that much- there was treatment becoming available mid-80s so the only real out of place thing is the Thelma and Louise comment.
I've been giving a play-by-play of filming and linking to all of the albums that have been made on my LiveJournal. I think I've gotten at least four of my friends into RENT, discovered more RENTheads at my school(teachers included), and managed to annoy...everyone else. *laughs a little*
A quick question for you, Anthony... how were you able to get where you are, as in, what big steps did you take to get out of Illinois and get out there? (Seeing as I'm another person from Illinois who aspires to do this with my life.)
It feels so great... because after talking about making the movie for so long, it's finally happening. I only wish that I could go see it for myself... the whole {almost} OBC cast together shooting RENT.

RENThead, enLIGHist, Ozalot, Grobanite, Ringer, Pickwick LW, Wicked, Lost, American Dreams, West Wing

Fist, let me say that like everyone else, i am so happy that this film is being made. i became a RENThead in 2000, after you left the show, its awesome to get a chance to see some the of OBC, including you, perform those roles and musical numbers that we all love.
I dont know if this has been brought up in the forum, i am not going to read trough all 97. But, i am an aspiring actor/singer, and i have dreams of someday..along with other acting priviliges, i dream of being on that Nederlander stage, or in the RENT nat'l tour. Someday after i finish studying my craft. Do you think this movie is going to hurt the longevity of the show? I came across an article where I read that they (producers and such) hope this movie version "buys RENT more time" on Broadway. Your thoughts? Do you see..or should i ask, do you think that the show itself is "dying"?
And what do you think of the "Celebrity Status" performers taking on roles? Melanie Spice and Drew Lachey, who recently played Mark. Its alright i guess when the two creative worlds mix...but come on, does RENT really need to cast "known" names to lure people to the show? I can't help but to think that these actually could be signs of the end. my thoughts, my opinion. What do you think?
Okay those were two normal questions, here come some wierd ones.
1) In acting, i was told in order to develop my character better, i should create a background for him. So i get a sense of where he came from, and who he is now, etc. My question for you is how does Mark know Roger, Collins, Benny, and Maureen? how did they end up being roomies? sorry, maybe im too deep of a thinker...i was just curious if you've ever pondered the same thing.
2) When you first auditioned for the show, what did you sing?
3) Through the years, im pretty sure you've been able to see Mark portrayed by different actors. Who's take on the character, that you originated, was most riveting and dead on...or which one did you enjoy the most watching?
THANKS for keeping up with everyone on this forum. its cool that you take the time out and allow us - the many that cant be at those stage doors, or the right sidewalks at the right time, this form of communication with you. And the movie updates? Gosh, ur wicked awesome.
**This is cooler beyond belief to me...God, i'm such a RENThead is almost ridiculous...but whateva, don't hate.**
Mr.Rapp I too would like to hear your thoughts on the life or death of rent. The show has ran for so long now and they have found so many people to star in it. What are your thoughts on the Movie with the broadway run?

Turn on the WB within the next 5 minutes. Doing a clip about the Rent movie! Anthony, looking foward to seeing you on the small screen.

I want to write music. I want to sit down right now at my piano and write a song that people will listen to and remember and do the same thing every morning...for the rest of my life. - Jonathan Larson. Tick, Tick...BOOM!
Anthony, I was just wondering what you guys were going to do with your chairs once the film is over. Since RENT is a big part of Broadway Cares, a suggestion: why don't you all autograph a couple and put them up on Ebay or something, and the proceeds go to a foundation of your choice..
Was just pondering this with a friend...thought it was a good idea to share
hope you guys have fun in San Francisco next week!!
Well, I guess the 80s thing doesn't bother me so much, except, if I were in 1985, I don't think I would sing about living in America at "the END of the millenium"...i don't know...I guess it's no biggy, but I have a feeling there are more things than just the thelma and louise thing that people who don't know much about Rent will label "flubs".
YOU GUYS GOTTA POST MORE PICTURES!! I WAS ONLY ABLE TO VIEW ONE OF THOSE SETS AND THAT WAS THE LAST ONE!!! IT EXCITES ME SO MUCH I WISH THAT I HAD THE MONEY TO FLY TO NY AND SEE!!!
Uh...I just did a quick internet search and discovered that AZT wasn't FDA approved and commercially available until 1987...
hm...
ps: aren't cellphones used several times? (Benny) Cellphones in 1985 were like Zack Morris brick phones--if that--right? Updated On: 3/15/05 at 11:54 PM
Welcome newcomers. Gah you guys are fast with the questions.
Hope everyone had a good day. Also hope filming went well. :)

Yes, welcome to all the newcomers! I'm shut off the site for one night and look how much I miss.....
Anyways, 3 cheers for new pictures! They keep us west-coasters going while the movie is filming in NY. Anyways, great photos so far. Everyone looks amazing.

Ach! Don't quote me on the '85 thing...I'm not crystal on it, just what I heard, don't take it too much...meh..maybe I'm just getting an ego here thinking this is about my post...oh well...my fault, I should never say things that I'm not sure of...*headdesk*
On another note that charity things sounds really good, signing the chairs and e-bay-ing them...really cool.
I think that it's very cool that you were on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit...but I never saw you and I watch that show all the time...hmmm ah well. By the way, something I forgot to mention before, I love your posting name, it cracks me up...I think if I were ever a Spice Girl I would call myself NotverymuchthereSpice...eh off on a tangent again I am. A question, have you ever heard of the Cedar City Utah Shakespeare festival? I have no idea where I was going with that question, but it takes place in October, and it's a great place for people who love Shakespeare. I guess I'll put another question...What is your favorite Shakespearean work/play/sonnet etc?
"A guy gave a girl 12 roses, eleven real one fake, he said, when the last rose dies I'll stop loving you..."
Hi Anthony, First off, please thank thank the staff and crew for being to generous and embrasing the people that have come to the set. Also, thanks to the wonderful Rent-loving community for sharing your experiances on the set! It's beautiful, guys!
This is the first time that I've posted a question. Thank you for taking time to answer so many, it must be overwhelming at times. I love Aaron Lohr for Newsies, is he really going to play Steve? It was posted before, and I was just wondering if it was true.
Sorry about not being around here the past couple of days. I've been hosting a friend from Pittsburgh, and spent 12 hours on the set yesterday.
I have to say this right off the bat: these rumors about me smoking are NOT true. I have never smoked, have never had any interest in smoking, am thrilled with the ban on smoking in restaurants and bars in NYC and elsewhere, and think it's kind of hilarious the way rumors get started: someone posted somewhere that they saw a whole bunch of the cast members smoking on the set, and assumed that I was one of them. Ah well. Most of the rest of the cast members do smoke, but not I, and not Tracie.
Anyway, I have to go get ready to get picked up for some rooftop What You Own shooting (very excited about that!) so I can't answer the myriad other questions now, but this smoking thing felt urgent enough for me to dispell, so I did.
Take care, I'll be back asap.
Anthony
