Such exciting news, Anthony. I'm sure everything is coming together magnificently. This is all soooo exciting!
And I can't wait until you guys get back out here to San Francisco. I'm planning on visiting the set if that is possible, even from afar. (I promise to be behaved. ) We are having the absolute most gorgeous weather out here though (it was 88 degrees the other day!), so that is good for you all. There won't be any need to thaw out.
I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this, but if I had any money I would TOTALLY bid on that parking notice. Yes I'm a loser, but I could be a loser WITH a RENT movie keepsake!!
"Kali, why is Roger on a cliff?"
"Because the cliff is love, Rachel."
"Oh."

Thanks for clarifying the plaid pants thing. I understand the attachment to an iconic image, believe me. But I also understand the desire on the part of Adam and Chris and Aggie (the costume designer) to go in a slightly different direction with Roger for the movie. They want him to look a little more authentically downtown rock and roller from that period, which means a lot of denim and leather. If he were more of a punk rocker, the plaid would make more sense.
As for the scarf, it's coooold, so Mark needs a scarf, and since the scarf is so iconic and looks good on camera, it was a no-brainer. I'm particularly proud that the scarf in the film is a replica of my original scarf (although the white stripes are toned down to more of a grey), whereas in all future incarnations of Mark scarves in the show, they have grown increasingly longer and poofier. I always loved how relatively skimpy my scarf was. I think that it's more appropriate, somehow. A little pathetic, you know?
And insomniak, I think it's *very* sad that you would even consider not seeing the film because of the lack of plaid pants. Please tell me you're kidding?
i want that parking sign!!!! Has anyone seen the pictures someone took from the RENT filming?? im too lazy to go back and read 92 boards to see if it was posted. Anthony, thanks for the updates!!!!!!!! If it were'nt for your updates, we'd have no idea where the hell you all were, especially SBers
Thanks for the update Anthony. I'm also glad to hear that the script is moving closer and closer to the liberetto. I'm very excited to see the end results of all this hard work in November.
I'm with Iheartmark, I could be called a loser for wanting to bid on that parking sign but I'd be a loser with a RENT keepsake! huzzah! :-P Unfortunately my parents would probably disown me if they caught me bidding on that so sadly, it is an opportunity that I will have to let pass...
And alas for the loss of the plaid pants but at least Adam still looks awsome and in character! I think the reason we all love the plaid pants so much (sometimes to an obsessive point) is because they are like the "Roger Trademark" (just like the striped scarf is the "Mark Trademark"). Those flashy plaid pants are part of what makes Roger..well..Roger. :-P Or thats the only way I can figure as to why we all love those plaid pants so damned much.

Haha, I haven't been allowed on ebay since the 150 dollar Josie and the Pussycats prop incident, as it has come to be known (BUT I GOT IT LOL) Anyway, now I must tear myself away from the board to do a science project...joy... See you later :)

I really loved the more down-to-earth look they are giving Roger for the movie. The total diva-rocker was great for the show and it really made Roger stand out more but for the movie, I'm glad they decided to go in the direction that they did. A bit more believable and realistic. You guys all look damn awsome!

I'll ask my friend if you like, she came to school wearing a striped scarf that looked just like the one in RENT...its black and white though not blue and white (the one she has)

Yeah Nia, you have to go see the movie, no matter what. It's not ALL about the plaid pants, although they would've been great. Really great. But hey, the scarf's still there. That's a good thing. Among other things.

Yeah but I can understand why they decided against them for the movie. I think Roger would have looked way too flashy and out of place, walking around NY in plaid pants. But I am glad to hear that the Angel drag costume made it into the movie. Angel has some great costumes!

thanks again anthony! your posts really do lift up my day. (sat's today - ugh!)
since you mentioned la boheme, you obviously know a good amount about it. i was wondering how much you looked into it before the show and/or the movie (i can't believe i can say that now!) and how/if it guided the show past the story line. i saw baz luhrman's production on broadway and loved it. i have the cd from that production and now listen to it pretty frequently. before i saw the show, i read it in english and the similarities and all the nuances in the plot that transferred to rent really amazed me from the relationships to the street peddlers to the cat/bird.

I was actually curious about how you guys are going to go about shooting the movie. Will it be that kind of singing to the camera shooting like Little Shop of Horrors (movie) with the Urchins singing directly to the camera with semi-syncronized choreography for larger group scenes or will it be just like the characters are having a dialouge scene only they are singing instead of just speaking.

yay! updates! ::happy lauren!:: I made a Mark scarf last year lol. (well, my mom made it, i watched law and order) I was talking to Andy Meeks after I saw Rent a few weeks ago and he said he saw a few on Ebay. I also saw one very similar to it in the window of Abricrombie and Fitch last winter.

Hi Anthony, I just wanted to thank you for answering questions and keeping us all updated on whats going on. I was wondering if the sculpture that was JL's inspiration for the sculpture on stage will be used at all in the film. I saw it the other day around these boards somewhere for the first time, and it's pretty incredible. I hope its used somewhere in the film, it would be a shame if it wasn't. Good luck with the rest of filming.
