I've been reading this for a very long time so I figured it was time to join in...

First, thank you for keeping us all updated, it keeps us from going crazy... and i lost my train of thought.

But yeah, I love being able to read about what's going on from someone who is actually there. Plus, updates are just exciting anyway...

So thanks again and I hope things keep going well and the updates keep coming (I love them so much).

You are amazing! Thanks!

ps. I am being peer pressured into asking you to ask Idina to update her site for her fans. Because we're dying. And it saddens us. Thank you for your time. I would say more but it's kind of embarrassing. Goodnight.

pps. I just embarrassed myself but whatever. All those Idina fans out there need to praise me.

Anthony, the scarf is in, the plaid is out, but what about the blue plastic pants and the Xmas dress?
As always, thank you Auction Item

Has anybody noticed the multitude of Rent threads? I am just as excited as everyone else, but if this keeps up the board will turn on Rent just as it did with Wicked and Brookln.

TURN ON RENT?! ARE YOU CRAZY WITH THE HEAT/COLD?!

Rent has been part of the world for almost 10 years. It has a message, it is important. No one can turn on it, why would they?

I agree with Framo. I think the multitude of RENT threads is just getting everyone more and more excited. I mean, I'm sure it is possible to turn on RENT, but very unlikely. How could you?

Well, my sister used to kinda like it...then when I got heavily into it, she stopped liking it even the tiniest bit. So it IS possible to turn on it.

Stupid, but possible.

I doubt it, but I am just putting my fears out there! It would take alot, and i mean ALOT, for the board to "turn" on Rent, but if the amount of threads keep up like they are doing now for a substantial legnth of time it is a definate possibilty. Thought I would put out a *warning* at the beginning.

That being said, post away!

I see your point TGIF, though I think some of the multiple thread stuff happened because several newbies came on at once looking for those pictures and each starting a thread. I think that in a few weeks, every Renthead in the world will be on BWW, so we won't have that problem any more. Auction Item

Anthony, I don't post here often since this thread is already so long, but read your posts religiously. Thanks very much.

I'm all for a more downtown rock look for Roger. The photographs from the New York shoots all look fantastic. Now that I've been reminded that Jonathan began writing the show in 1985 and didn't finish for ten years - which means that it's really an amalgamation of the '80s and '90s - I can easily forgive the Thelma and Louise anachronism. The move toward filming a screenplay that closely resembles the libretto has me very curious. I would love for this to mean that "Contact" and "Christmas Bells" (or a variation on them) will be filmed.

Hopefully the cast will have some say over the final cut, since the editing process can turn a potentially successful film into one that gets panned.

Thank you to the people who have PMed/AIMed/posted to me to inform me of Anthony's response to my melodrama.

I wrote him, but I figure I ought to say something to the general public. I'll get over it. Probably. The pants are very representative of Roger in my mind and I love them. I'm just afraid this movie will be messed up somehow, it's so easy to do, but I'll just have to have hold my breath and hope.

IheartMark I love your signature about Rogers pants! I've done the same thing in several stores and got a ton of your crazy looks! And who the hell is Roger? questions!

I was seriously thinking about bidding to the sign but it's seven dollars to ship! thats over my budget!

Wow. Great update, Anthony! Rent's the MAIN movie I'm looking forward to this year ("Hitchhiker's..." can hold me over until November Auction Item )I DO like the fact that everyone can get a costume change. Plus, from what I've seen from the set pics, everyone looks great!

I was gonna say that I'm sure Som would go see Rent even without the plaid pants. Makes sense about them. A little disappointed, but hey makes sense.

Anthony, didn't you say earlier in this thread somewhere you actually got to keep part of your original Mark costume minus the plaid jacket? Sorry I don't want to be lazy, but I don't want to go and try to find it. Oh well...I'm going. Have fun filming!

About the sudden multitude of RENT threads...we think there's alot of them now but just wait til it gets closer to the movie release date. :-P The apocolypse of RENTheads everywhere is upon us my friends! And I couldn't be happier about it! The more the merrier, I say. Its true, if anything all these threads are getting more people (like me) more and more excited about the movie.

I know what you mean Insomniak, there will always be trepaditions and concerns about how the movie will turn out. Most of us here have all fallen in love with the show over the years and it would probably kill more then one of us if, for whatever reason, the movie turned out badly. I mean its always a risk turing musicals into movies because you have to find a way to take a production that was written for the stage and put it on the screen in an artistic, appealing way without making it look cheesy. I for one, have very high hopes for RENT from what has been said so far on the making of it and I think it's going to work out really well but again, we won't really be able to know til the day it comes out in theatres.

Dream I see you finally found a Calvin picture. Nice.

And Dream you just said everything I was going to.

I'm keeping in mind that when Rent does come out I'm going to have to explain a lot of things to one of my friends, but there's a big batch of cookies in it for her if she sees the whole movie. :)

Haha race. :-P Yeah I finally found a good pic. I found another really good one but it wouldn't upload for some reason...:-/

Unfortunately, I have this kind of sinking feeling that the people who will go see the RENT movie are only going to be people who already know the show and are semi interested in it. And that's not bad since thats a whole hell of alot of people but I voice this concern because I've asked a few friends who haven't heard of it before and they just kind of looked uninerested in a movie-musical and even more confused when I tried to explain its plot. I'm really hoping that the success of the movie isn't hindered by the fact that it isnt boasting A-list celebrities or tons of special effects because that would be a real shame.

My friend is interested in going she's not heard all of the songs, but she's heard a few. Some of her reactions were funny for La Vie Boheme A&B. I think if she gives it a chance and goes at it with an open mind then she'd probably like it. Although she didn't see the stage production so I don't know. Hmm. We'll see.

What are everyone else's predictions on how the public will react to the movie when it opens in November?

Honestly I have not a clue, but it's not necessarily easy to predict that with any other film. My hope would be a positive reaction. What if people who haven't seen Rent before come out of this film with positive thoughts about it and actually think about it?

I think the movie will actually get a pretty good reaction, although some of it probably depends on how they advertise it. I think that most people, no matter where they are, have heard of RENT and probably have some idea of what is about. I know that being out here in California and not getting to New York hardly ever, I would definitely want to see RENT in the movies because it is pretty much the only way I can. Especially with the OBC - although that probably means nothing to the general public. A lot of it will probably depend on word of mouth, too. Like if we all talk about with out non-theater friends and take them to see it then I think it should definitely do well.

As long as the message and meaning of RENT is portrayed on film and it remains as powerful as it is, I would hope that people would at least take something positive away from it and whether they loved it or not is another story.

Yes, I definitly agree with what you said Blue J. Also about the fact that I too live in CA and would love to be able to see the OBC in action. Calvin... I think even if we didn't know it came from RENT at the time, we have all probably heard something from it since it is such a widely circulated show. For example, I practically grew up listening to Seasons of Love (I remember always getting confused at all the 525,600 minutes parts..:-P) but I never knew what it was from. Then I got the cast recording and was listening to it and just thought "Wow, so thats where it came from!"

I'm optimistic about the release--maybe its just a show of how naive I am, but all my friends are excited to see it! I mean, like I said earlier, they get all excited when they see a "Mark scarf" or "Roger pants" or a "Collins hat". A lot of that is my obsessive influence, but still!! lol Plus if they don't like it its their loss--it just means they don't get it. It has a great message and if people look past surface stuff they don't agree with, they'll see that. ...That wasn't very articulate but hopefully you know what I mean! lol

"Is there going to be a 'making of' documentary thing of the filming? Perhaps to be included on the DVD or such. Just hoping."
I read this a little while back and decided to respond without reading anymore because I would loose my thoughts if I did so forgive me if someone already suggested this.
If they were to do that wouldn't it be...I guess you could call it cute, I dunno, if It turned out that Anthony Rapp/you (if it's you reading this but...well I think it comes across what I'm trying to say here...blast typing!) were to film it, kind of like a tribute to Mark...eh, just a suggestion.

Something like

"The Making of RENT the Film"- a Mark Cohen Film...I dunno...ah well...
