I 100% agree. We just don't need a theatre like The Broadway. If they found a way to get rid of the rear mezzanine and created a thrust stage, it could be a versatile, unique, and sought-after space.

The space sucks. But we live in a commercial society so there's no way they're going to deconstruct the theater. But wish the'd redo the marquee.

As an Old Gay™, I have to ask: is Britney Spears still relevant to gay boys? She seems past her sell-by date to me. No one in my social circle would flock to this show.

Neil Diamond musical is playing the Colonial in Boston, so I cannot imagine it plays The Broadway. Broadhurst makes so much more sense just from that standpoint alone.
If they do a revival of The Producers with Lane and Short.... could they just do concerts this summer and fall then spring they get this show?

I an almost 30 year old gay man, and she is still very relevant to my generation of gay boys from my experience. That being said, Once Upon A One More Time will need a mid to small sized house.

Exactly - there’s already some buzz around the show with the NYC girls. I know several people who went to go see it out of town just because of the fact that it’s a Britney Spears show. She’s definitely very very relevant.

I'm not sure how true it is, but I've heard Almost Famous is taking the Broadhurst and Suffs all but has the Barrymore locked up.

It cannot be worse than Spiderman. That is by far the worst show I have ever seen on a Broadway stage!"
Not yet seen & Juliet, but it seems to be a musical that gets most of its appeal from the songs and the cast (Fun Fact: I went to the same Sixth Form [The UK equivalent of High School] as the woman who plays Juliet!). It will be interesting to see who they get for Broadway...
It would be pretty fun if & Juliet and Once Upon A One More Time are going to be on Broadway at the same time. Both are "jukebox musicals" with millennial pop soundtracks, which provide "meta" revisionist takes on classic stories with loads of feminism and some welcome gender/sexual diversity. In fact, three of the Britney songs featured in OUAOMT (... Baby One More Time, Oops I Did It Again and Stronger) also appear in & Juliet...
I really enjoy the & Juliet cast album - their cover of Robyn's "Show Me Love" never fails to lift my spirits...

Assuming the Britney musical will not get rave reviews (meaning it will not have the "serious theatergoing audience" ), it could be this season's CHER SHOW or JAGGED LITTLE PILL or GROUNDHOG DAY or SPONGEBOB or BE MORE CHILL: a strong start that has its fans but ultimately fizzles out.
She may be the Queen of Pop, but she isn't IN the show. The show might be a ton of fun, but will it command a $100+ average ticket price over a period of 1-2 years? I really don't know. We should not underestimate Britney fans. They are ravenous. But there has yet to be a show to recoup with a mostly-Millennial and Gen X fanbase that doesn't get rave critical reviews and/or Tonys.
Nederlander probably hopes this can be the next MAMMA MIA, but one must manage expectations.

There has been no formal announcement, but I have heard the above from two different people. Of course it's heresay, so take it with a grain of salt!

Unfortunately, I would say the same about & Juliet, wherever that may play. The show is shoehorned to oblivion and comes off as a less effective Kiss Me, Kate, though it does have a few things going for it (Martin’s music, diverse and talented casting options, Sherman’s outstanding orchestrations).
I do know for a fact that Eva Price has joined the London producing team for a Broadway run (a la Kevin McCollum with SIX), and my man Dominic Fallacaro will once again MD - he opened the West End production before Patrick Hurley took over about a few months before theaters shut down.

I just don't get the hype of Suffs. It seems like a pleasent enought off-Broadway musical that people are banging the pots to other theatre people to try and get in on this piece before it explodes, like another show that started at the Public (A Chorus Line)

I really hope they don't put &Juliet into the Broadway... it's far to big of a house for this show.
&Juliet isn't a very big production... I was hoping it would go to the Barrymore or Broadhurst...
I'd love to see Back to the Future here though! That show is such a big spectacle and would fit well here..But I've a feeling that will end up at the Palace..

Why do you have that feeling? Is BTTF working with the Nederlanders and looking to wait a few years till the Palace is done? Richard Frankel & co. are producing and I assume will take the lead on a Broadway transfer. They've produced shows at venues controlled by all the major theatre owners.
Is the rumor of Sweeney at the St. James that was floated here a few weeks ago true? Jeffrey Seller typically produces in Nederlander houses, but they don't really have any big houses available next season.

The Adelphi Theatre in London is co-owned by The Nederlanders, that is probably why there is an assumption Back to the Future would play a Nederlander house on Broadway. Who knows what the time line is for the inevitable transfer is though. Would they want to wait that long for the Palace to be finished?

I have no idea what the Palace timetable is, but seeing as the raising process just happened they still have a long while to go to build the new entrance/box office/elevators/lower lobby, as well as the interior restoration (and –– groan –– added seats) in the auditorium itself. And that's not even taking the retail space into consideration. The theatre could conceivably open before everything below it is done, but there could be problems related to noise, electrical, plumbing, etc.
Generally, nobody waits for a specific theater –– a show that could play the Palace could also play the Lunt or the Broadway or the St. James. Nederlander isn't a co-producer of the show. So unless we hear that they're working with Nederlander exclusively, I would not automatically assume they are.

Where is The Wanderer going? Saw it last weekend at Paper Mill and it’s Broadway ready (needs cut down as it is too long I think) imo.

They're adding more seats to the Palace? A theater that could barely sustain anything as it was? Who made that decision.
