Posted: 4/10/06 at 1:20pmLoved the sets for "The Color Purple". Especially the way it was lit. Sweeney's set was very cool. Loved the courtyard in "Doubt". I think my 3 favorites are "Sunday in the Park With George", "Into the Woods" and the "Showboat" revival.

Rabbit Hole had some brilliantly complex scenery.
The Color Purple has the best scenic design I've seen this year.
The Light in the Piazza has undoubtedly the best scenery on stage right now. Its one of the best sets ever on the Broadway stage if you ask me.
Wicked has some really beautiful and intricate scenery.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' scenery is wonderfully almost "comic strip"-ish. It's wonderfully colorful and versatile.

I am quite fond of Eugene Lee's designs for the original SWEENEY TODD and the revival of SHOWBOAT.
Also, my first Broadway show, the original OLIVER, with it's massive revolving set by Sean Kenney. It truly changed the look of musicals. It was one ofthe first times that sets changed in full view of the audience as the action continued.
