I can decipher that you meant De Shields, but no clue what the previous sentence is supposed to mean.
Autocorrect. Yes, DeShields. Guess you didn't see reunion stream which included author and director. Andre wasn't there but other leads were.

Sorry, having sight problems, but surely "feel" could logically fit into sentence.
Ginna Claire Mason, who was playing Glinda on Broadway, announced on Instagram she’s expecting a baby back in December(I literally only saw the post the other day). Not sure when exactly she is due, but I could see her taking this opportunity to retire from theatre and start a family. Also, it would give Wicked the opportunity to cast Brittney Johnson as the full time Glinda.

That's awesome news for Ginna! I don't think this will be a "retirement," per se, but I would like to see Brittney take over the role - besides the fact that a Black principal Glinda is way overdue, everything I've seen from her in the show is absolutely brilliant.

"
Is it still a legal obligation when it’s a show that hadn’t yet started previews or rehearsals, in the case of the music man, for that matter? I’m all for everyone getting their jobs back, but I think their should still be a push to diversify some of these all white shows and let them away with not casting a single person of color.

I don’t know if or what Music Man plans to don. But, All of the characters in Flying Over Sunset are all real people. People such as Cary Grant, Aldous Huxley and Clare Boothe Luce. To me, there’s a difference when doing a show where all the characters in the show are real people rather than a musical that is fictional.
Hamilton literally proves your point is moot and also... maybe they shouldn’t have written a musical that only contained white characters. The show itself is about a fictional event anyway, if they can get away with that surely they can get away with casting an actor of color or adding in characters of color.

That was an "artistic" choice. And the fact that they attempted to post a casting notice that specifically excluded white actors from certain roles negates any claims of colorblind casting.

Hamilton was a decision made by Lin, not the rule that must be followed. Just as it was stated in the previous post by Fosse76.
Furthermore, despite the fact that yes, there should be much the shows with black and Latino characters who are played by said population is one I too think should be a thing. Yet, saying that they should not write a show because all the characters in it are white is is just silly. And, throws the whole idea of creative expression out the window.

There was a Velma reunion on Stars in the House a while back where she said she's retired from the show now.

Correct. Flying Over Sunset needs no recasting just like The Music Man, they were selling just fine.
Karen Olivo has announced on her IG that she will not be returning to Moulin Rouge. She wants to focus her energy on effectively changing the industry. Less interested in the money in her pocket, and more about creating an environment where artists can feel safe.
That is unfortunate, she was stunning in the part. But, I respect the hell out of her decision and wish her the very best.
Luckily, she saved her IG story; you can watch it here:

I just watched the video. I really respect her and her decision.
Good for her! Rock on, Karen! More should follow you!
If I'm being honest, Olivo was not one of my favorite parts of Moulin Rouge! based on clips I have seen. Yes, she's a Tony winner, but she won for a very showy role with some vulnerable acting on the side (what I think is her strong suit). Her Satine started off on the right foot- she nailed the "Diamonds" medley- but her chemistry with Tveit was nowhere to be found. I thought the two of them were good friends and not lovers. She's a good actress and does well with Satine's weaker side, but not really when she's singing- she "oversang" a bit too much of her material IMO.
All this being said, I might consider seeing Rouge! live after Tveit leaves. John Logan's book will probably be just as laughably bad as it was last March, but the show overall could easily be much better (and, dare I say it, enjoyable) with a competent, complete Christian/Satine combo.
I will conclude by saying I too greatly respect Olivo and her wise decision. She did what was right for her and I appreciate that. The B'way industry needs to do better dealing with social justice, among other issues such as the Rudin dilemma.

If you really respect someone's decision, then don't make it about you by saying you didn't care much about her performance. This kind of attitude is what is poisonous.
Right. What part of this called for a review?!

She co-founded AFECT Change with Edin Espinosa last year, and this aligns with their mission and sounds exactly like she’s made her priorities known (impacting change to systemic issues in the theater industry being above furthering her acting career/bank account) so this doesn’t seem surprising but deserves applause in my opinion.
Her and Edin are stirring up a lot of controversy in the AEA world. It's great! More power to them.
