How do you politely ask for a signed Playbill? I live in the West coast, so I don't have the opportunity to see shows, unfortunately. I was going to write to Judy Kuhn once FUN HOME opens, and write to a few others in various productions. Would it be better to just address the envelope to a stage manager in this case (to request a signed Playbill)?
Every so often there was a rare moment of perfect balance when I soared above him.
If you would like a cast signed playbill you write to the stage manager. If there's a particular performer that you want to reach you write directly to them using the theater's address. In your letter, you could mention that you live on the west coast and don't have the opportunity to see the show. In my letters, I write how much I enjoyed the show and politely request a signed playbill, making sure that the stage manager understands that they are in no way obligated to fulfill my request. I don't want to come off as pushy, especially when the request isn't accompanied by a donation to BC/EFA.
"Mostly, I loved the size of these people's emotions. Nobody has emotions this size anymore. Outsized emotions. Operatic emotions. Kushemski and Vanda are like Tristan and Isolde, they're Paolo and Francesca. Nobody's in total thrall like this anymore. Nobody's overcome by passion like this, or goes through this kind of rage." Was happy to come home to mail from Beautiful today! I don't do this often, but when I really like a show/cast and haven't been able to stage door it's a nice keepsake.
I sent a letter, my Playbill and a $30 donation to BC/EFA on Saturday morning and got a Playbill signed by the entire cast (in a plastic sleeve too) and my original Playbill back today. And a little thank you note for the donation. Less than a week - I'm impressed how quickly they go back to me.
After reading that they had been asking for donations (someone said they asked for $40 in late December) I just picked a number and it worked.
I also wrote to If/Then the same day so hopefully I'll hear back from them soon.
I can't imagine shows rejecting a playbill request because the donation you sent 'wasn't enough'. I figure that ultimately any dollar amount would be accepted. At least, that's what I hope. I sent a $20 donation to If/Then only to find out that ideally they want a minimum of $25.

^ I sent a $10 donation to Les Mis pretty early in the run, before I was even aware they were requesting donations, and they sent it back with a letter explaining they set the donation amount at $30.
I imagine If/Then would send you a Playbill in exchange for the $20 donation ... I think it would be a lot of effort on their part for $5 and also they will appreciate that you sent a donation. That's kind of what I figured with Beautiful and it worked. I also said in the note that I hoped it was adequate.
Heard back from the Elephant Man today. (A tremendous sigh of relief all considering the show closes today). It took about 2 weeks.

Yes, I received a cast-signed playbill. I sent in a $40 donation.

Has anyone sent in more than one request to a show because there was a cast change and you wanted a signed playbill from the new cast? Are you just making the same request or do you reword your letter differently?

Heard back from "You Can't Take It With You" today. Took about two weeks (they closed on Sunday).

Heard back from Helen Mirren, Rosie Perez, and Kristin Chenoweth this week. Helen and Rosie signed 1 photo each. Kristin kept my items, her assistant sent back a presigned photo, postmarked from Los Angeles.
PM me if you're interested in purchasing or trading signed playbills! I have a large collection! :)

@gleek Jennifer Nettles signed my photos for me. I saw someone sent to the stage manager and got a playbill but Jennifer did not sign it. Carly did tho.
I also got my playbill from the stage manager signed by Anna Chlumsky and the cast of You Can't Take... :)cant

Heard back from Hedwig and the Angry Inch and A Gentleman's Guide To Love and Murder. Unfortunately, Hedwig is no longer fulfilling autograph requests, even if you send a donation. All I received was a letter stating that, along with an unsigned playbill from the show and my returned money donation to BC/EFA. Really disappointed with that one, was really looking forward to getting an autographed playbill from that show. And Gentleman's Guide sent me a cast-signed playbill featuring their new lead, Jeff Kready (replacement for Bryce Pinkham).

Yesterday I dropped requests to the following show/performers in the mail: - The First Wives Club in Chicago - Jessie Mueller (Wanted to catch her before she left Beautiful) - Jennifer Nettles (via Chicago)
Will be sending requests to: - Kristin Chenoweth - If/Then - Katie Finneran - Cinderella Tour - Once Tour - The Heidi Chronicles
I've heard from others who've sent to Kristin Chenoweth that she has her assistant fulfill autograph requests with a pre-signed headshot and disregards whatever items she's asked to sign.

Has anyone sent a signed playbill request to The Audience?

Has anyone written to/heard back from If/Then? It's about to be three weeks since I sent my playbill request and $25 check for BCEFA and I'm wondering what their time frame normally is, especially with the closing looming.
I sent a check and request to Beautiful on the same day and heard back quickly. Neither of my checks have been cashed yet though.
I wrote to If/Then a couple weeks ago. Haven't heard back yet, either.
