i think daphne is great. i would love to see her live. also, is she a voice of a recent commercial? i cant remember what its for but i swear its her voice lol
Don't get me wrong - I like everyone else back in 1996-1998 loved RENT. She was my favorite part. It did not matter that her voice was from the crypt in that show. Her actig shown through - which is very important and rarely happens anymore. I also loved her in Rocky Horror. She was perfect for these shows. Anna in the Tropics was good too. Something went horribly wrong in Les Miz. I was excited when I heard about the revival - I thought to myself "Oh wow - I wonder what they are going to do to Les Miz? How are they going to change it - to accomodate for casting Daphne - who doe not belong in this show?" Well - they did not change it. They just let some of the actors suck - i.e. Javert and Daphne (this was just not her role)
RentBoy, I was inferring that people didn't understand her casting, and in turn her work. Also, let's not forget that the original poster saw her in an illegal video and therefore didn't understand her choices because he/she didn't see the entire performance live.

She's unconventional. Some people like that. Props to them because classically trained pure and pretty people make me sick. Well, some of them. But I'm all for VARIETY.
It's been said plenty on this thread, but I couldn't help but add my 2 cents in.
I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)
Judging by OBCRs, Daphne was perfect in Rent, Rocky Horror, and Bernarda Alba. She is very original and thats why she keeps getting work. Her originality shaped and fits into many roles. Kind of OT, but I would love to see her as Anita in WSS. I have always wanted to post that here so I guess I will now.
-she is an intelligent actress -she is a good business woman (and that is MOST important in this town) -she has a lot of friends in the business -she has a good agent/manager -she is versatile
-she was brilliant in RENT, and being part of the original cast of that show ensured she would have commercial viability if she chose to exploit that, and she has -she was one of the best parts of ROCKY HORROR -her live rock shows are great
I am a fan of hers- I thought besides Celia and Norm, Daphne was certainly the best part of LES MISERABLES. Her acting was great (I wish she had more scenes to show it off in), and though her voice was kinda...scratchy, it wasnt unbearable or anything. And her acting kind of made up for it! She might not have the best voice in the industry, but I think she's a very respectable actress, and DEFINITELY one of the nicest I have ever met.

Honestly, I wish she would do more straight plays and give musical theatre a rest for a while. I'm not criticizing her voice in any way--it's great when it works, such as in BERNARDA ALBA or RENT--but she's shown as of late in plays like JACK GOES BOATING and ANNA IN THE TROPICS (among others) that she's one of New York's most exciting dramatic actresses.
The world of drama definitely needs her more than the musical theatre stage.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
People need to hang out on this board and read for a while before deciding to go ahead and rant about people. This is an intelligent (well, it tries) board and posts like this which just shoot down an actor just aren't welcome. You are entitled to your opinion, even if it does lack thorough thinking. This board it just too close to actors for people to begin firing remarks like that.

Because it said before you updated your post at 9:41.

B3TA07, if you're going to say something as disgusting, rude, and offensive as you did, you might as well wait until you have the balls to not edit it out of your post after people call you out on it.
