I think they have a chance at a good run. They now just need to get more creative and change their marketing campaign. They also need to make the rear balcony seats really cheap.
the show did so well in toronto. packed house every night in a 2000 seat theatre. granted it is toronto, there is nowhere near as much theatre as in NYC. but they also had 25$ rear balcony seats
I've heard from several sources that it costs $600K a week to run. The average ticket price is one of the highest. Perhaps if they added more discounts the attendance might go up a bit but they are more than fine. People need to let this show be and start worrying about some of the other shows. Even without a Best Musical Nomination it went up in attendance and brought in more than some of the other nominees (where as SA went down in attendance and CMIYC went down in gross).
Actually the decent numbers you are seeing now have more to do in probability with the advance. 70% capacity is not a very good indicative for a musical this size.
Yes. They cost a lot of money. And rent at the Palace aint cheap. I can tell you are a fan of the show.. which is great. But denial is a river.
You really think it's denial when facts support what I have said? The show has dipped below $800K THREE times which were the first three weeks of the run and you're running around like the show has an axe over its head waiting to drop? You say you're a fan of the show, but you have shown no happiness when the gross or attendence goes up, such as this week, you just keep on your tirade on how it needs to do better. Girl you need to let people talk about whatever they want to talk about. The truth is there are empty seats at the Palace and 70% is weak. You can keep repeating 800 K all you want.... I give it less than a year.
I haven't really been keeping up on this stuff, but out of curiosity, did the big drop in capacity happen around the same time that their last (better) discount ended?
The show's got NO discounts on weekends at this point. It seems like they can't be all that concerned yet (though I assume with that % capacity that they're all over tkts instead and it's just that no one's biting? No idea.) At $50 that balcony doesn't exactly feel like a deal.
Good for them on the average ticket price of $92 though, I guess.
Question: If they sell the tickets at TKTS at a 50% discount, wouldn't it be better to allow the discount codes on Saturday & Sunday matinee shows and sell the tickets in advance at a lesser discount. Would that not generate more demand as well?
Comment: Looking at the grosses, it looks like when the average ticket price increased, (broke $90) the % of seats sold decreased. Looks like their price point is the $80 range.
Got fantastic front Orchestra seats for this past Saturdays evening performance through tkts. Row D. I couldnt believe it. Had a great time. The show and audience were on fire. Neal Patric Harris was also in the house. Last few rows of orchestra were empty. Will be interesting to see what this weeks numbers are.
