The astounding thing is that HOH and OOTI did not close long ago. The former has lost money nonstop, and the latter has lost money in all but a handful of frames. There will be more by the end of the holidays and they will not be astounding.

Again? Is it someone they already had lined up but bailed in a different situation prior to this?

I just got images in my head of high schools doing King Kong with horrible looking Kong puppets.

That’d be a version of King Kong I’d pay to see

They are involved with the show.

Sorry if my initial post wasn't clear. When I said "by February or March" I meant at the latest they will run until March. They could potentially close sooner. I hear the producers are considering bringing in a last minute stunt cast for the role of Gleb, after Max Von Essen departs, especially if Cody isn't selling well.
If they don't bring in another stunt cast and Cody doesn't sell the show will close before the end of February. However, if the show brings in a stunt cast they may hold out longer to see if they boost the show's earnings.

Well Anastasia has to bring someone in since he leaves December 16th. Are they actually going to have an understudy do the role through x-mas when they are charging full price with no discounts? I had no interest in this show until I googled pictures of Cody Simpson. Then I read the wikipedia page to find out the synopsis of the show, hoping that there might be a scene where the two male leads strip down, grease themselves up and wrestle - it's totally something Russians do all the time. I was thinking someone like Adam Lambert would be perfect for the role. Unfortunately the Wikipedia page synopsis suggests that most of the show revolves around the chick. Her contract must be up soon too? With HOH's closing, maybe they could bring Peppermint in for that role? Would Harvey Firestein be willing to play the Dowager? Talk about a dreamcast!!

Waitress is in hot water right now. As someone said above, they keep having their star casting pull out at the last second (if you can call some of the "names" they've pulled stars).
Beautiful has run its course. If not this season, the theatre will be open for next season.
Anastasia is a cheap production that did a disservice to the material and I can't wait to see it close so that theatre can be put to good use.

OK, a couple of reactions. 1. "involved with the show" paints with a broad brush. 2. From the wording here, I'd bet my bottom dollar they are involved at a very peripheral level, you know, like where people speak with the words above when actually involved in the decisionmaking.
Cue response.

I'm more curious than ever to know who Waitress has tried to bring in - and why they keep dropping out. But the fact that this show has lasted so long warms my heart.
I've never quite understood why Beautiful has managed to hang on but every time people ring its death knoll it just defies the odds again. But I agree it might finally have run out of steam.
I actually think Anastasia is a lovely production and an interesting re-approach to the material, but I know that's not exactly a popular opinion on here. Nevertheless, I will be surprised (happy, but surprised) if it makes it to next summer. Mean Girls and Frozen are both much more popular choices for its target demo, although I could still see it siphoning off the folks who can't get/afford tickets to those two.

What about it? If you mean it is on the chopping block, that's just silly. Like it or not, it is grossing in 7 figures, and has a good advance.

As does PRETTY WOMAN. It doesn't mean that they're good shows. Exiguous and unimaginative entertainment at best.

Like Cher, Pretty Women is also selling really well right now. The quality of neither show will determine when it's set to close, as long as they're selling at least. And they most definitely are.

And perhaps you meant to post this in a different thread, viz., "With HOH and OOTI closing, what are some exiguous and unimaginative shows I can go see?" Although, of course, that would be silly too, since neither of those abject flops were exiguous or unimaginative. On the contrary.

Torch Song will likely close early. I thought it was part of second stage's season, but it's a commercial production.
Then a limited run of something before more second stage shows in the summer? A Chorus Line?

Which reminds me—if Torch Song runs until the end of February, is there time to get anything else at the Hayes for this season? Weird that they haven’t announced another tenant for that theater, given how quickly they announced their first three.

I definitely think TORCH SONG will finish it's run. It's producers have a HEAD OVER HEELS-esque belief in the success of this show. Also, STRAIGHT WHITE MEN ended on September 9th and TORCH SONG started previews a month later to the day, so it's definitely possible something could come in.

No he’s actually related to that family with a TV show on Fox!

It's a show about a beloved female musician in the 1970s. What's Broadway's top demographic? Women who were alive in the 1970s. That said, I'm still a little surprised it has lasted 2,000+ performances/5 years, but good for them!
