...Chaperone in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE?
If she brought a little of her Karen-isms and her over-the-top but appropriate comedic skills, I think she'd be great!
Any opinions?

Posted: 6/20/06 at 2:17pmNo. She's too weak. She has a pretty voice, not a strong voice.

I want her as Mrs. Lovett in the Sweeney Todd movie, personally.

I wasn't such a fan of hers in HOW TO SUCCEED...
She was just okay. It certainly didn't make me want to see her in anything else. And, while Rosemary isn't the greatest female role ever written, I have seen women in it, that have really made something of the role. So, it's possible.

... Glinda in Wicked
Add a little Karen 'tude. Make one of the monkeys a little McFarlandesque.

You're wrong about that munk, she has a great big belt voice. I don't think the part is big enough to get her to do a Broadway replacement though.

Megan would be great in numerous roles on Broadway. I would steer her far from anything "Karen-esque" and I think she would run screaming from anything described to her as "you know, like you did Karen." Megan is very deep and drawn to darker works. She actually would probably been a great choice for 3Penny, as she loves Weill and Brecht.
She just recently played here in Buffalo at the Unviersity's Center for the Arts and she has definitely been working with vocal coach. Her voice was powerfully strong and she hit the back of the theatre with her ending on Danny Boy. Not a dry eye in the house. She's also non-chalant. She came out in jeans and a tshirt for her performance. I think she'd be most at home with something grittier and less flashy, camp, or glam. Especially if she is trying to diversify.
She did mention her talkshow, so don't look for any new shows for her. She's tied up right now.

Posted: 6/20/06 at 3:14pmShe seems very well rounded. She loves darker musicals, but at the same time loves light comedy like Will and Grace.

While Megan Lawrence was amazing, Megan Mulally would be a great Gladys when PJ comes back in the Fall. Hell, if they wanna be really schlocky, throw in Eric McCormack as Sid and Sean Hayes as Prez for a W&G PJ reunion haha...
Fact is, I'd love to see Megan come back to Broadway in ANYTHING....maybe in a year or two after her talk show.

I don't think Megan Mullaly would be a terrific Mrs. Lovett, personally. I think she would make a sensational Adelaide if the London Guys and Dolls revival transfers (not to say I wouldn't like to see Krakowski do it here)
I also have this feeling that she'd be a good Mabel in Mack and Mabel, and a good Melba if Pal Joey is revived.

inlovewithjerryherman- She is too old for Adelaide and WAY too old for Mabel. She's almost 50...Mabel is what...17/18? Although I'm sure she would have been great in her prime. I think she would be a great Chaperone and a brilliant Mame. I would also pay to see her Mrs Lovette. I see it.
