I agree. Really getting tired of people thinking they are in their living rooms at the theater with no respect for those around them.

That is my response to this.

Seriously though, your willingness to tie this undesirable behavior to her race says more about you than it does about the theater staff and patrons who had to deal with this smelly food. Your white guilt helps no one; get rid of it.

You have very clearly never worked in a professional theater, because it is not out of the ream of probability that anyone working for the production would complain about behavior that has no effect on their job responsibilities. It happens all the time.

That said, being rude is not the same as being verbally abusive. However, it is possible that she had been warned previously about eating in the theater, and this was a last-straw reaction. Though I admit that theater security can be unnecessarily antagonistic, and this may certainly have been an overreaction.

This. I'm not so quick to write off accusations of racism or bias. But this account doesn't provide sufficient information so it's mostly the OP's perception and the responses reveal the inherent biases of the respective posters.

Fair enough but I doubt they would complain about it so loudly that members of the audience could hear them. I would imagine in a professional theater, they would know how to immediately contact the house manager and let him or her know they need to deal with this without creating a commotion so noticeable that random members of the audience could hear them "protesting". Maybe I'm just reacting to my gut telling me this whole story... smells.
