This is so fabulous for Ghostlight Records and Kurt Deutsch! I really hope Light in the Piazza wins. How fabulous would that be?!
Spamalot will probably win, as I've heard that most Grammy judges don't even bother listening to the Best Musical Show albums. They'll just go, "Oh, I love Monty Python! Let's just give to to them."
Not that I'm the least bit bitter about Spamalot winning best musical at the Tonys, aside from the fact that it marks the end of Broadway musicals as a legitmate art form...
Guys, this hand-wringing over Spamalot as the end of civilization as we know it is just ridiculous. It's not the type of well-built musical comedy that I favor personally, but it's exactly the type of ramshackle entertainment, like Follow the Girls, Ankles Aweigh, Hellzapoppin and other disposable Broadway musical evenings, that stood alongside the masterpieces of Rodgers & Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, et al. in the Golden Era. Life, and Broadway, will go on even while Spamalot is still running.
Yay Hair! I don't think it'll win, but good for them!

Spamalot!? ARGH.
Piazza or DRS will win. I hope.
Piazza, all the way.
If the Grammy voters even "drop the needle" for just a few songs... it should win.
(But there's always a good chance they won't even go that far, and they'll vote for the name they know and love... Python.)
I'm SO excited for the Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight people! And I'm REALLY surprised to see Hair up there.
I think Hair is one of the best recordings of the year. Glad it got a nomination.
If Spamalot wins I'll poke out my left eye. The cast album is even worse than the show.
I'm hoping for Piazza or Hair. Would be nice for one of the small labels to get a win.

I would bet my money on Spamalot. The CD has sold tons and is probably more well known among the voter community. I of course go DRS all the way but I have to be realistic ; ;

I have no idea who they'll vote for, but my vote would go to PIAZZA with NO hesitation.
I am pulling for DRS or Hair...a girl can dream!
We'll hold you to that, BobbyBubby!
It won't be the end of the world if Spamalot wins---there's always next season!
Smaxie, thank you.
and spaghettiiiiiiiiii!
Sorry.
That's the best part of the CD!

ok, i know that revivals have always been eligible. some have even won. but i'd just like to know how they are eligible due to this stated rule? i mean, revivals do not contain a new score. so maybe someone can help my confusion. i admit that i've wondered this for years.
Personally, I think the Grammys are so far off most of the time that while I love the DRS album, I don't really care if it wins.
I'll predict Spamalot as well because it's the best known name.
I was hoping All Shook up would get recognized...clearly it wouldn't win, but i love the arrangements! Oh well
Kelly Clarkson got NO Grammy nominations.
Boo.
And Coldplay got, like, one.
Boo.
So Piazza better win.
Piazza SHOULD win, yes.
But no, SPAMALOT is guaranteed to win.

Dont worry Priest, Kelly Clarkson got two nominations...for Best Pop Vocal Female, and Best Pop Album (which is different than Best Album.) She could win best album, but Gwen Stefani or Mariah will likely take that one.

Just looking at what they've done over the past few years, the Grammy's generally go for the high profile shows
Wicked-2004
Gypsy-2003
Hairspray-2002
Producers-2001
Aida-2000
Annie Get Your Gun -1999
Lion King- 1998
Chichago-1997
Riverdance-1996
Smokey Joes-1995
So it seems that Spamalot is gauranteed a win, though I'm really pulling for Piazza. Who knows... they did award Passion and Sunday in the Park with George, so there's some hope, though I don't recall what the competition was in those years.
Smaxie and Magictodo, I could kill myself. Spamalot deserves absolutely no accolades for its witless score, no matter how many of those all mighty dollars it hoardes in its pockets.
And neither does Kelly Clarkson, she's cotton candy too, but I like her better than Spamalot ;P
I'm hoping Piazza will win, very much so. I don't know why but I can't even fathom Spamalot winning! I mean, I could live with DRS living, I wouldn't mind too much if Spelling Bee won (no chance on either part), but if Spamalot won it would be the final proof of a meaningless dystopian world. Okay, that's a little extreme.
But really, Piazza did stir a buzz with its music so it may register on some radars. I say we pool our money and anonymously send copies of the CD to all the judges.
