I saw the 25th anniversary production of Les Miz which launched at Paper Mill, but was technically a touring production. I could see that happening with the Bodyguard as well...
I like the idea of Top Hat (I saw the show twice in London and it's become one of all my all-time favorites), but I feel like they would perhaps make a reference to the feather dress, and/or "top hat and white tie and tails" instead of just the tapping feet. Just a thought.
Another thought. Papermill is pretty established as an out-of-town tryout for new shows that hope to come to Broadway. Wouldn't is be likely that at least one of those is something that's currently in development, something that has currently had a reading or workshop (or lab)? Everyone so has been listing existing shows, either classics or London transfers...
Paper never make this easy, if they put top and tails that would be a give away, only a mere suggestion it could be Top Hat, could easily be the original suggestion 42nd Street.
They've been doing these for at least 6 years now, they're not going to stop these. I think it is a pretty fun way of building anticipation for the announcement.
So so far, I we have 1) A show in development, top hat, 42nd st 2) Hands on a Hardbody, Million Dollar Quartet 3)Original show, Kiss Me Kate, Beauty and the Beast, Lend Me a Tenor 4) The Bodyguard, original show, If/Then 5)The Producers(biggest lock)
- I'm hoping the crocodile is Peter and the Starcatcher.
- The Bodyguard should be interesting.

Maybe the newer sequel to Lend Me a Tenor -- A Comedy of Tenors, recently staged at McCarter? Or would they not be likely to repeat a McCarter show so soon.
