Has anyone said "Shakalaka Baby" yet. That's the kind of beat that stays in your head for years.

Haha - the Sherman Brothers are the best at writing songs that get stuck in your head. "It's a Small World," anyone?

And if anyone wants the lyrics to Chitty, I can type them up for you - I've only seen the movie once but like a good little Sherman fan, I know the words. re: The most catchy broadway song ever...

just remember it's "fine four-fendered friend"

As for me, Master of the House never leaves my head. I really dislike Les Mis because of that song. We played a medley in band once and I swore then and there that I'd never go see the show from which this music came. re: The most catchy broadway song ever...

Master of the House. When I heard that song, I was about to go crazy. It was in my head for days, if not weeks.

Some tuners that wind up on perpetual re-play in my fragile little head:

Side by Side - Sondheim
You Could Drive A Person Crazy - Company
Turkey Lurkey Time - Promises, Promises
Another Hundred People - Company
Money, Money - Cabaret
Jellicle Song - Cats (this one's the worst)
One - A Chorus Line ("loaded with charisma, isma, suantering, jauntering, ambling, shambeler....ugh! make it stooooop!!!)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - Sherman Brothers
Chim Chim Cheree - Sherman Brothers AGAIN!!!!
West O' The Wide Missouri - Okay, not a Broadway song but written by the Sherman Brothers!!
Let the Sun Shine In - Ragni/Rado

Oh, and I would like to elaborate on Avenue Q... "The Internet is for Porn." Good lord. It's always *so* much fun to be with a group of seventh graders and start humming "The internet is for porn, the internet is for porn..."

Oh, and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is horrible. If I hear that once, I go around singing it for days. Not to mention I know maybe a quarter of the correct lyrics, so most of my renditions turn out as garbled hums... "Da da da da da da Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, da love you..."

How has nobody said I Feel Pretty, yet? That song gets stuck in my head almost constantly.

Close runner-ups:
Gee, Officer Krupke (also from West Side Story)
Welcome to Kanagawa (Pacific Overtures- I listened to this once on accubroadway, and it was stuck in my head for the rest of the day, as I tried to study for my global history final)

"76 Trombones" wins. My brother nearly killed me once for singing that for about a week...nonstop.

Damned movie.

Ah, well, I still love The Music Man. What can you do?

And "The Internet Is For Porn". Reeeeeeeeeeeeally bad one to get stuck in your head becuase you end up singing it aloud. I've gotten MANY funny looks because of that song.

If we are talking EVER you'd probably have to look at Broadway songs like "I'm Gonna Wash that Man right out of my Hair," and "Put on a Happy Face" which both were used for YEARS in commercial jingles.

Oh, the Sherman Brothers are responsible for It's a Small World? Shoulda known it. I sometimes "plant" that song on people as mischief. It is so darkly rewarding to hear them humming it later in the day. That tune is enough to keep me from taking the ride at Disneyland, even though there are never any lines, and it is a long slow air conditioned break from stifling heat and crowds.

Funny many mention 76 Trombones, and no one mentions Goodnight My Someone. Same exact tune from the same show, just different lyrics. Maybe because Music Man drums that tune into your head several times through the show does it become catchy.

The Goatherd Song from SOM sticks with me most though, because it whistles so well.

The scores of Hairspray and Avenue Q are catchy. And I can never get "Wonderland" out of my head, from BARE...i love that song and find myself singing it all the time, hah..and the lyrics aren't the more appropraite to be around little kids, so embaressing situations have arisen.

Akiva

p.s. Oh...and from what I have heard of Catch Me If You Can it will be in my head constantly, and in my CD player as well.
