The Pirate Queen.

I hope to add The Addams Family to the list if they do decide to try-out in Chicago, and Tommy Tune's new show Turn Of The Century.

Chicago was the place to be for this... for awhile anyway...

-The Producers
-Sweet Charity (Christina Applegate-performance before the foot thing)
-Bounce (sorta counts)
-The Visit (Same)
-Death of a Salesman
-One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest(Steppenwolf/Gary Sinise&Amy Morton)
-Moon for the Misbegotten (Gabriel Byrne & Cherry Jones)
-All Shook Up
-Spamalot
-The Pirate Queen
-August: Osage County (four times, thank you)
-Light in the Piazza (Celia Keenan Bolger as Clara)
-Hollywood Arms
-The Young Man From Atlanta
-Aida
-Adding Machine

Um... and a lot of plays that played Chicago first, but in different productions.

Jesus saves. I spend.

FLAHOOLEY(1951) starring a very young Barbara Cook, at Philadelphia's Shubert Theatre. It lasted 40 performances at the Broadhurst in NYC.

PLAIN & FANCY(1955), also starring Barbara Cook, at Philadelphia's Forrest Theatre. It had a then profitable run of 461 performances at the Mark Hellinger in NYC.

THE GIRL WHO CAME TO SUPPER(1963), starring Florence Henderson and Jose Ferrer, at Philadelphia's Shubert Theatre. It played the Broadway in NYC for only 113 performances, despite getting 3 rave reviews and only 1 unfavorable one. I saw it many times, and "second acted" it multiple times in my heavy drinking days.

THE YEARLING(1965) at Philadelphia's Shubert Theatre, starring David Wayne and Dolores Wilson. It played the Alvin in NYC and lasted 3 performances after receiving 5 pans, which it deserved.

I saw Gypsy at City Center, Grey Gardens at Playwrights Horizons, and Reasons To Be Pretty at MCC (which is coming to Broadway in 2009).

I am crossing my fingers for Next To Normal to make it to Broadway next. I saw it as Feeling Electric at the 2005 NYMF, as Next To Normal at Second Stage, and will be seeing the Washington D.C. production at Arena Stage (Crystal City) later this year.

Center or back, it is nice to meet a fellow Seattleite! Young Frankenstein, Hairspray, Princesses, The Wedding Singer, and The Light in the Piazza all had out of town try out here. I'll be seeing Shrek this summer when it premieres at the 5th Avenue Theatre!

The revival of Man of LaMancha (which I really didn't care for and had there been an intermission I would have walked out) and believe it or not, Hot Feet [both in DC].

"Kiss of the Spider Woman" (pre-Chita; I think it was at Vassar, oddly) and a reading of "Thoroughly Modern Millie," wherein I discovered that Harriet Harris was the funniest woman alive.

I saw the tryout for the Little Mermaid in Denver, and I am not even joking, Alan Menken was sitting one row in front of us. It was really cool!

This isn't my story, but I once talked to this older couple at the stage door of Spring Awakening who told me they saw Rent during its run at the New York Theater Workshop Off-Off-Broadway. It was really amazing and interesting hearing what they had to say. They said after the performance, on their way out, Daphne Rubin-Vega was exiting the theater, saw them leaving, stopped them and asked them about their thoughts on the show. They told me she seemed so excited and they all knew it was going to be something pretty special.

I saw Passing Strange when it was at the Public. Haven't yet seen it in its present state on Broadway but I enjoyed what I saw a year ago.
